If they work for you Lee do it. I have no doubt in my mind that George could pull this look off so why not any other 50 somethings. In fact I'd say that George could wear what Ville has posted above and not look out of place. It's a classic look and not one to avoid necessarily just because it's worn or has been worn by Hipsters lately and is now very much a fashionable look.

Lee, we aren't a judgemental bunch here on the whole and as long you're talking sense you'll usually get something reasonable back. It's good to have you posting here and I hope you find your niche and be prepared for that inevitable slide in Ivy geekdom.

Did you post on ModCulture Lee?

Ok, bit off track this, but I did think it was interesting (i've stopped wearing trainers so much, partly my age and the fact I prefer a shoe) even if it is from the lad mag creator James Brown. I used to buy a lot of Incontinence pants - it was the only brand i would wear italias etc, when they made good reissues, I don't wear Surgical appliance by the way, except one pair of stability support running shoes.

No mention of Incontinence pants Court Stars in that 'article'. That's a seal of approval for me for the CS.

I like my trainers, cheap, plain, umbranded in terms of anything visible, and cheap. Oh wait i said cheap.

Guy in Stephen King's 'Apt Pupil' (one of my favourites, next to 'Salem's Lot' - one can't be forever reading German philosophers), wears Keds, has the piss taken out of him, finally gets killed off.  The Keds are seen as a way of 'getting down with the kids', like the would-be trendy vicar snapping his fingers to the 'cool' sounds of Oasis at the ill-attended church hall disco.  Nothing now, as another 'Woody' tide beguns to engulf me, would prevent me from wearing them, bus-pass or no bus-pass.  Where's farrago?  The last pair, however, were orange.

Have a box fresh pair in the wardrobe (along with other brands) just waiting for ones in current rotation to bite the dust. My 2016 Novesta just keep hanging on - beaten up to absolute beauty

Re: Keds, Converse, Jack Purcell and Other Stuff...

I just bought a pair of white, leather Converse: with thickish soles.  I need something to be kind to my ageing feet and they look like they will be.  But - to be worn with jeans or (not too likely) shorts only.  I cannot think that trainers with cords or chinos would be a good look.

Re: Keds, Converse, Jack Purcell and Other Stuff...

After rapping with Our Man In NYC, the esteemed Jdemy about Edward Gorey and his Keds, back to those Converse - which I heartily recommend, gentlemen, if your feet are the least bit sensitive.  The buggers have barely been off my feet whilst out of the house these past few days - but exclusively with USA-import Levis.  I hold to that tiny prejudice about cords and chinos.  You can look as if you've stopped caring, overvalue your Gant golf jacket as somewhere to keep your hearing-aid and bus-pass and are looking forward to that mid-morning coffee at Trixie's Pantry with 'er indoors after trudging round Tesco.

No mention of Sperry Topsider CVO? Which I would have lumped in with Converse etc. Am I on the wrong track? Happy to be corrected, but to me they look a lot less 'down with the kids'.

I've got a fantastic pair of Sperry x Velour Cloud in vulcanised rubber. White and completely bullet proof.

Trainers (old school that is) do actually look good with chinos. Even with OCBD and surcingle.

some sort of banal legitimacy

Sperry are on my 'to-get' list - unless anything better presents itself.  The Converse were a bargain buy at £12.  My late father favoured New Balance.  He never, during his entire life, tolerated a shoe that wasn't comfortable.

M and M direct have a bunch of Cloud Logo Sperry CVOs at the moment.  I stocked up, as they are often weirdly hard to find in UK, and overpriced for canvas shoes that last a single summer.

PPT, where would they be made?  Nowhere west of Suez, I expect.

Are those Sperry kosher PPT?  M&M direct have been known to supply cheap knock-offs as far as football shirts are concerned, anyway. Someone I know bought a cheap West Ham shirt and it fell apart after washing.

Re: Keds, Converse, Jack Purcell and Other Stuff...

Got to say - The only thing I’ve ever got from M&M was a Levi trucker. It was clearly thinner than any I’ve seen anywhere else. They’re descriptions of the goods are very brief. And I might be wrong but seem to remember their returns policy/cost was too prohibitive for me to bother. I’d vote buyer beware on them.
