In fact, I know what he means - and one on each side is an absolute no-no for me.  USA-made flannel shirts often remind me of the kind of Filson type work wear I came to dislike a few years ago.  Carefully does it.

The flap pocket is one of those things that I like the idea of more than the reality.. It’s part of the J Press heritage and therefore a detail that would instantly signal your Ivy orientation to a fellow devotee of the look. But they look a big incongruous under a jacket in my opinion.

I only ever wore a shirt with a flap pocket, Press or otherwise, to carry money when travelling.

I agree with Woof, a flap pocket with a jacket doesn't work for me, only had a couple of JS flap pockets and moved them out quickly,

I also have a few shirts with the single flap pocket. Gant, Ralph, John Simons, Madras popover et al. I find them too fiddly and a bit over the top. I used to travel a lot so I appreciated an open top pocket where I would put my boarding pass, ticket, passport. Maybe not so important now.
On a board shirt or overshirt I think double flap pockets are essential for the look and for practicality.

The perennial problem of leaving a cold UK airport and touching down in sunnier climes. I was at Manchester Airport on a typical Easter weekend flying to Florida. The lady sitting next to me was wearing Ugg boots, a wool sweater dress and opaque tights. She looked lovely. I daren't think the shock to her system after a 9 hour flight when she touched down in Orlando.
