Is it just me or do these have a touch of 'Pensioner's Special' about them: possibly worn with your grey or beige 'Harrington' jacket and grey, velcro slip-ons?
I viewed them with slight distaste back in the early autumn in a Derbyshire town where Brooke Taverner seemed to be all the go, then - stap me - they're on sale at Chiltern Street. What gives? The situation reminds me of Grenson - often on sale at Russell Street, or so I'm led to believe, but also at the factory shop down the street from where I'm sitting typing this. What's next? Vetra at Asda? Yes, I can see it: F&F or TU chore jackets...
I presume you mean their ‘Alfie’ newsboy?
I like them. I’ve got a donegal, a melton and an Irish linen. The wool and linen are 100%. No mixes.
They come in proper sizes, rather than the usual two S/M or L/XL others in that price bracket have resorted to.
They’re not expensive. Around £25 all over Amazon and often pop up in TKMaxx for around a tenner. I imagine whatever they’re on sale for in JS it’s a fair bit more than that. Although I would expect that for a bricks and mortar shop in London. They seem to be one of the few items they stock that are easily available, cheaper everywhere else.
As part of Ivy clothing I think they’re solid. Wear them with JD sportswear and you’re a twat. With a three piece and hobnail boots you’re a cock.
Cheaper than the slightly overrated Stetson certainly.
Oh, the caps that JS did himself were pretty good, although I sold my seersucker on, together with the 'Popeye Doyle' a few years ago.
'Alfie'. Yes, possibly so. A bit too 'laddish' for my liking. Also the name of kids and bull terriers.
I wear flat caps and cheese cutters all the time. I like them. The newsboy doesn't suite me so well.
The newsboy is a great Ivy look and used to be quite niche, but now, thanks to the peaky fookin blinders, it’s become ubiquitous. But I’ll ride that out.
I’ve always thought that Stetson really got the cut right with their Hatteras newsboy cap. But Failsworth … what’s it all about Alfie? The big thing to avoid is the deadly ‘mushroom head’ effect that I’ve noticed when trying on non Stetson alternatives, so how do the Failsworths stack up in that respect?
To be honest Woof, I’ve found the three that I’ve got do all sit slightly differently from each other.
What I have found is that each one I’ve been on the fence about at first, but like decent jeans they don’t take long to shape themselves nicely to my head.
