Not me. Jimmy - either in conversation with, else pondering on a conversation with, Ian Strachan. Not me, but I respond to it.
I suspect - although I don't know - that Jason Jules' book might contain studies of black men wearing conservative clothing. Like the Modern Jazz Quartet? Didn't someone on here (quite likely TRS) once refer to a certain twinkle in Milt Jackson's eye? I was also paying close attention to Chico Hamilton's attire in 'Jazz On A Summer's Day'. Dark suit, white (yes?) shirt, tie neatly knotted. Was it only to look like The Man? All I know is: conservative is best. But it can be played around with. Subverted if you like.
Whilst we're on the subject - and in spite of telling myself I'd fallen out of love with the hefty shoe - I couldn't resist buying those USA-made black wingtips that had been hanging around on Ebay for weeks on end: possibly because the seller had them on as 'Aristocrat' instead of 'Aristocraft'. Even with the soles and heels pretty worn they seem likely to provide me with a 'Boston cracked shoe' vibe at a snip over £20 including postage.
They reminded me very much of a bloody enormous (at least size 12) pair I bought out of the Russell Street basement about a dozen or more years ago: Made For J.Simons.
