Mine remains knitwear, with slipovers currently much in favour. We were watching an old Hitchcock last night, 'Young And Innocent' (the delectable Nova Pilbeam) and the man on the run was wearing a slipover. I think one in maroon/burgundy is next on my list.
At the moment, hats and caps. Newsboy especially. I’ve also been reinstating ball caps that I put away thinking they were a bit young for me.
I’ve truly reached a stage now where I don’t feel dressed enough to leave the house without a hat.
For a baldy, they’re absolutely necessary to keep my head from the cold/sun. And as a confirmed happy introvert, they act like an invisibility cloak, allowing me to glide past people I know if I don’t feel like chatting.
My weakness is shoes. It's always shoes and boots.
Last time I was in the UK my missus was with me and she started checking what I had bought in her absence. She said 'Jesus, you must have 25 pairs of shoes in the cupboard'. I quietly counted them, got up to 35 pairs, then remembered that in the garage was some more. 'Yes dear, about 25 pairs but some of them are 30 years old!'.
I'm not sure how it came to this, especially when I used to manage with 3 pairs.
I only have about 15 pairs in Finland though and they are for the extreme weather conditions experienced here.
I'm more frugal with knitwear. I only have 2 slipovers, one a claret/ maroon colour and the other a blue, light blue, grey and white argyle style golf type jumper. I love it but never wear it.
Always been shirts for me, not particularly overloaded with them maybe around 50’ish in total....
Shoes and boots. How much longer can I get away with the argument that THESE ones will last a lifetime?
Knitwear. How can one man have/need so many variations on a blue/grey crew neck?
Shirts? Endless. No dear. If you look closely, this one is a slightly lighter, marginally smaller blue gingham then the other four.
Robbie thought you’d need more knitwear for Finland, surely you can’t get away with just a ocbd and G9 , haha
You are right Stax. I meant just two slipovers. I have all my old decent knitwear here in Finland plus cheaper stuff like Uniqlo. My best knitwear is in UK but I don't have too much. Just taken the dog for his evening pee and it's -20C outside so I tend to wear good quality duckdown coats donated to me by others or again cheapo Uniqlo.I do have one G9 but rarely wear it.
Here I've got about 30 BD shirts again mainly old stuff. Must have double that in UK. Nothing seems to wear out for me but I still need to buy new stuff.
