^ I rather like this. I do plenty of mooching myself.
Pevsner was evidently in a hurry when he visited the town around 1952, noting an 1830s church but not bothering to walk around the corner to examine the pretty, modest little Unitarian chapel. Nor did he bother much with the other chapels. The town was a hotbed of non-conformity from around the time of the Civil War onwards.
A pub I used to enjoy, 'The Imperial Vaults' (the 'Imp') has long gone, replaced by a pretentious dump called 'Nourish'. Fish finger 'butties' for the ladies who lunch. It used to be full of the local characters - true eccentrics. A decent glass of Bass, too. I once cared more about such things.
I like a mooch about. Don't do enough of it these days except for my regular walk along the estuary. I need to make the effort to visit London, but I feel like a tourist these days. Used to enjoy a drink in the Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden with a few of the younger boys and girls from the office. That was over 30 years ago, but the pub is still there. They used to do a good fish and chips meal.
What unites us at the moment, it seems, is a positive dislike of the format, content and so on of A.N. Other Forum. The worrying thing is, it sometimes reminds me of 'Talk Ivy' in around 2010, when it was beginning to splinter. Some of the photographs they're posting are either pointless or appalling. Sometimes both.
‘Inane’ posts used to be one of the great threads on this forum. Much of it came from the now dormant Wardrobe, but Jim did sterling work with various observations.
So I don’t understand the fuss if A N Other forum wants a similar thread; or even the sensitivity if targets are over here. If you dish it out you have to be able to take it.
I also believe the dormant Wardrobe explains FNBs absence. That was really his interest.
Meanwhile, I was interested to hear reports on Loake 771 used for the purposes of administering a kicking in 1971. That was peak time for Royals - which would be the shoe of choice. Royals would not be bought for kicking obviously, as there were better and cheaper alternatives. That said, the Loake would not have been a good choice either. No Dainite sole in those days, so less comfortable and more prone to loosening of the laces. I don’t remember the Loakes from those days, though I did seek out cheaper versions of Royals with no success.
It all adds to the gaiety of the nation, as Auberon Waugh might have put it.
Not a good idea to go around kicking people, even if you disagree with their views.
I imagine that the sharp edge of a Dianite sole would be equally effective when delivering a disabling strike to the Tibialus Anterior as a leather sole would be. But as AFS says not a good thing unless in self defence.
'Not a good idea to go around kicking people, even if you disagree with their views.'
Fascism and violence go hand in glove, as anyone with the slightest familiarity with the topic should be well aware, therefore the chances of the kick in question being unprovoked are very slim.
Even if it was unprovoked: anyone old enough to remember the NF etc knows the type of shit their supporters get up to: random attacks on adults and kids, dog shit through letterboxes, firebombing homes etc etc. All for the crime of not being white. Anyone going on a march to support that has it coming to them.
