Robbie - Gym yes, you're welcome to join me in oggling the Chinese Lady, maybe a g&t rather than guinness in your local,( but that might be frowned upon by your fellow drinkers !), I looked at the Peter Christian chinos, but , 1) the creases look like they're permanent,(I think Un/Sc mentioned he thought they were), 2), don't like the detailing on the back pockets, they should be just a button and the opening not additional strips of fabric, considering a trip into London this week and maybe look in J.Crew, I've considered their chinos before and DBA has jogged my memory,(thanks DBA), I'll report back if I get them,

I think you'll find J Crew have closed all their UK shops!

I found the Peter Christian cords to be decent enough. Unfinsihed leg so could be cuffed and rise sufficiently high. Leg suitably trim. I was pleasantly surprised tbh

Walk Over bucks.  Very nice.  Just tried them with a Brooks cashmere sweater and rumpled chinos.

Paul Stuart sweater.  Sized as a Medium but fits very nicely indeed.  An agreeable fleck to it.  Knitted in Scotland.
I'm pretty certain the name Paul Stuart meant - and means - nothing to the young female Ebayer who sold it.
I've always done well with buying their stuff in England: a raincoat and some Italian-made cords for around a fiver.
The cords only went off to a charity shop fairly recently.

A USA-made L.L.Bean popover with a flap pocket.  I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it before.

I’ve got three Bean flappocket button downs. Quite heavy cotton with a small poly content, graph check patterns in different inoffensive colours, but they are fully buttoning. I wonder if they are similar? Great quality stuff.

A very nice grey herringbone overcoat.  Contains subtle flecks within the weave.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

A pair of Gant ' New Haven' navy chinos bought from an ebay shop, NWT's , about 50% of full retail price, so not particularly cheap, but 100% cotton , decent fit, just need to get the Wife's opinion of the rear view , as an aside , on their website Gant have some ' relaxed fit' shirts in what I'd describe as 60's style stripes, decent looking collar , no logo on chest, deal breaker ? Locker loop but no back pleat....

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Stax - Those striped Gants look ok. Collar looks very passable in the photos doesn’t it? I’d have to see one in the flesh as Gant collars are so inconsistent. Anywhere between a generous three and barely squeeze a two finger. As is their fit generally. I’ve got standard Smalls that are bigger than standard Mediums. So who knows what a relaxed is like?
Strange choice to put the logo on the sleeve. But better than the chest as you say.

Now you're talking. I hope it's a decent length.

Spendthrift- agreed on the points you raised, sleeve length has also been an issue, I’ve had a couple of their shirts with the logo on the sleeve, acceptable for me, but I can’t get past the locker loop and no back pleat, aah,

Stax- No back pleat is always a deal breaker for me and I can't explain why

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

On an open collar shirt no back pleat is OK for me, back in the early 80's I bought a bd from the IS Richmond,( I'm sure US made), didn't open it out in the shop, got it home and it had no back pleat, deal breaker, I took it back and after a ' lengthy discussion' I got my money back, there was a certain reluctance on their part,

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Yes with an open collar shirt I wouldn't want the pleat. Only with a BD shirt.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Yuca, it's to just above the knee.  I wouldn't like to be specific about its age but maybe early 70s.  Made by 'Simon House' (with the woolmark) - the name means nothing to me.  Wearing it with a jacket beneath will prompt me into wearing a foulard again.  I'd been keen before and the keenness was heightened by watching some old movies and seeing an image or two on TRSs current blog.  It reminds me slightly (but only slightly) of a couple of 'workhorse' Brooks jackets I had around 2010.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Just above the knee for an overcoat is a proper, man's length, that for some reason no one has the balls to make anymore. (Presumably because they don't think they would sell.)
