I'm sure I'm not alone is enjoying the musings of JPG.
I found both the short lived blogs he created superb.
Coffee, illustrations, books, clothing, music - somehow all these disparate threads came together beautifully. Intelligent and informative but never taking himself too seriously. What's more he's got credibility when he talks about Ivy Style.
I even ended up buying the book he featured on Italian urban design.
The reason for raising this now is the lack of quality out there and the absence of anything similar.
I'm sure if I bothered searching there might a blog that I find occasionally interesting but they're typically so one dimensional - Today I will be giving a glowing review of our sponsors latest overpriced merchandise.
I crave more. That's why Talk Ivy works for me as a forum.
Yes. Discovering those blogs was fantastic for me.
I recognised similarities in style and attitude to things I’d been into before. Though it seemed more grown up but less serious and strict than that.
I liked the ‘snapshot’ style of some of it. It’s the images that pull you in. The wording was quite short and to the point. It didn’t tell you what to wear so much as show you photos or old adverts and left you, and your imagination to follow it up.
The Ivy Look book I think is great. I often still flick through it. At first I enjoyed using it as a guide. Now more just for confirmation that I’m on the right track.

I think It was Sidewinder who once commented on here that when it came to discussing Ivy style online, every field had been ploughed, every furrow had been tilled, dug over, sieved and re-examined to the ‘enth degree. Just as the golden age of forums is probably behind us the same is true of blogs. Want a blog about modernist architecture? … There are several to choose from, the quality varies but the same stuff is covered. It’s right across the spectrum of everything. There is very little original content on the internet, or it is repetetive, you can only look at so many college yearbook photos seeking great examples of Ivy style before it gets tedious.
Then there the blogs that are in thrall to particular shops or makers, The Grey Fox - Cordings, Muffy Aldrich - Cordings and ‘look what I received this morning, a box of Le Tricoteur sweaters’. Lucky old you Muffy, now tell us how good they are.
Many have moved on from forums to blogs, to Instagram. There are some great IG accounts, Aaron Chang is highlighted in Ivy Style’s recent update, but personally I soon get bored just flicking through pictures and then there’s the adverts. I do like a chat, in person or online.
Woof,
As usual you make loads of good points.
I post on Insta and like the medium from keeping up with certain things I'm too lazy to research in depth perspective. I think of it as fast food rather than a meal.
I quite like Salt Water New England but not from a clothing perspective . I enjoy the pics of boats.
I guess I want something that captures a wide range of related subjects but with no lifestyle pretensions.
There is a lot on the net that is either badly written or is decisive. I'm not going to bother bad mouthing anyone in particular but there is a gap I wish was filled
'The Syllabus' was a favourite of mine, coming on top of the original John Simons website. Much, it seems, has been lost. A great shame.
