Sales

Anybody have any luck? I'm not in London nowadays, so most of my buys are online. I just got a pair of the moleskin 'Ivy' trousers from the JS sale, which went up this morning.

And I do like Barkers. Some good stuff at 50% off on their main site, and some tasty looking loafers on their outlet site too. A collaboration with Saxone apparently. I've just ordered the tan grain ones.

Re: Sales

Thanks SB - those loafers are just what I’m after. Might break my own rule and make an online purchase!

Re: Sales

I don't like beefrolls or split toe loafers. Those are nice though I will admit.

Re: Sales

Some of the sales items at Chiltern Street I failed to notice when they were full price: the college scarves, for instance.

Re: Sales

I’d had my eye on one of the JS overcoats in green herringbone, when I visited the shop end November I tried on an overcoat in a different color herringbone for size purposes and the medium seemed a good fit, so when I see a medium green herringbone in the sale I was delighted, called the shop around 4:30 on Saturday asked if they still had it and could they put it to one side for me and I’d be there when they opened on Sunday, so I’m now planning my journey for Sunday, 1/2 hour later Tom called back and said there was a mix up on the website and they didn’t have the coat, glad he called as it saved me an almost 4 hour round trip, but disappointed they didn’t have it.i guess the moral here is to buy at full price when they get the jackets and coats in, looking at the discounts they aren’t that big on their own brand items, I’ll need to be on the case come autumn ‘22 to avoid disappointment,

Re: Sales

Tom's a nice guy: very polite and helpful.  Disappointing, though.

Re: Sales

Yes Tom is a nice guy, when I was there in November he identified I was wearing a Gitman shirt from the buttons believe it or not, a good eye for detail, he told me Shaun ‘ head hunted ‘ him from Trunk which is a few doors away,on Saturday he told me he’d never seen the shop as busy as it was on Saturday which of course is really good to hear,

Re: Sales

That overcoat Stax is a thing of beauty. I was wondering what JS sale items you were interested in. Better luck next time. I'm sure if you had made the journey you would have not returned empty handed. I don't think I have ever visited the shop (which is rare these days) without buying something.

Re: Sales

You’re right Robbie , probably been tempted by the moleskin trousers and the scandi made scarves , glad I bought a flannel shirt at full price a few months ago, just odd sizes left now, the cloth and fit are really good, but the buttons let it down, they look and feel cheap to me and not in keeping with the price & quality of the shirt, I changed them, 3-4 attempts to get the collar buttons in the right place !

Re: Sales

Stuarts: all their Paraboots 20% off with code NEWYEAR which you put in at the checkout. Maybe also apply to other stuff that’s not specifically marked down in the sale, but it says in the descriptions.

Re: Sales

Update on the Barker/Saxone loafers at the top of the thread. I've got mine now, and the workmanship is beautiful; really top notch. Channel stitched and made with what feels like a very good quality calf leather.

One word of warning though: I took a punt and bought them without knowing the last shape. No width was stated, and they're a bit on the tight side. I've been spraying and stretching them, and think they'll break in, but consider carefully if you take an EE or wider, like me.

Re: Sales

Half price sale on the Original Montgomery Duffle Coat site, every bit as good as Gloveralls, if not better!

Re: Sales

As the sales draw to a close I'm really pleased that I picked up a Moleskin jacket from Chiltern Street on Saturday. Only a £100. A bit of a bargain and ideal to wear to the office with LVC '54's, Smedley knit polo and C&J Chuckas.
Needs breaking in as material can be a bit like raw denim.

Re: Sales

JeanStore are selling the G9 Harrington, in quite a few colours, for £255 reduced from £340. Not sure anyone on here would be interested at that price.

Re: Sales

Once again, the so-called 'Harrington' jacket, with its puzzling 'iconic' status, retailing at an absurd amount of money.
Baracuta were pretty good in their day.  I have two of their coats: probably around fifty-plus years old, the pair of them.  One is the belted trenchcoat I was wearing whilst out for a walk yesterday afternoon.  It has a nice,buttoned-in liner.  Nothing 'iconic' about it of course - unless you're an addict, like me, of old crime movies.  But a good, solid, only slightly pretentious piece of schmutter.

Re: Sales

If anyone is interested 'All Blues Co' have Drakes shirts on sale, hefty price to start with but down to around £130,(still fairly hefty), a good few available in ' middling sizes', (15.0 - 17.0) , I was attracted to the one described as a blue oxford, ( in the main description it is again wrong I think),on closer inspection and checking the Drakes website it is actually a chambray b/d, I don't own any Drake's shirts, nearly did last year, ordered a madras check, heavily discounted, (down to around £50), from Mr Porter, they sent a yellow striped shirt..... they didn't have the madras anymore, I did give it a good inspection and they are lovely shirts, ( apart from the detail on the pocket).... BTW , AB Co will have some more Kamakutra shirts next month I believe, easier to return to Yorkshire than Japan if they don't fit....

Re: Sales

Staxfan,
I appreciate you haven’t asked for advice so please excuse my input.
Be careful on Drakes sizing.
I find them exceptionally neat in comparison to other brands offering OCBD’s
I have a couple purchased in their previous sales and whilst the quality appears very good I find, for what should in essence be a classic, a far more fashion forward fit.
Personally I think the ideal Ivy fit is a curious animal that is neither to tight or too shapeless.

Re: Sales

Alvey, thanks for the advice, I’m sure I tried on the shirt Mr Porters sent in error and thought it was a bit ‘neat’, I agree with you regarding the ideal Ivy shirt, I was thinking about a Jakes bd but they seem too ‘blousy ‘ for me, no returns if you don’t like the fit, and Woof said the one he has is difficult to iron, I’m waiting to see what new offerings Kamukutra ( have I got the spelling right ?!), come up with,

Kamakura, I think it is, Stax.  Evidently you've been thinking of that Chinese lady again and mistook a make of shirt for a manual of interesting (albeit highly impractical) sexual positions.

AFS - You could be right, although I haven't spotted her for a couple of weeks, but as it's Wednesday today and that's the day I've usually seen her , I'll be at the gym today,

Re: Sales

Reading about Drakes has reminded me to put my lottery on! They sell some beautiful clothes but their prices are ridiculous. £125 for a pair of socks!

Re: Sales

£125 for socks!  Falke and Anonymous-Ism both seem pretty highly priced - and the Falke I bought have, on the whole, not lasted.

Re: Sales

That's only the cashmere ones though - cotton are £25, and wool £35. I was told by a (very) informed source that cashmere socks are a waste of money anyway, as due to the delicacy of the wool, they'll last no more than a few wearings!
