Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

'Norm Thompson' two-button, grey herringbone tweed jacket.  Not a good fit as it turns out.  I need to lose more weight from the midriff.

'Arrow Cum Laude' half-sleeve.  Sage green with a faint stripe.  Very early 60s Ivy I should say.  Spread collar.  A decent fit.
USA-made Bill's Khakis shirt.  Blue, green and white check.  Indifferent collar - button-down but no roll.  A decent fit.

A bonus: they were delivered by the delightful young Hermes courier.  A rather alluring young woman in her late twenties.

Your young Hermes girl is beginning to rival Staxs Chinese cracker in my imagination. If only we could share photos on this site. I could share some of my upskirt shots taken on tube journeys. I'm famous for them in my peer(ING) group.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Robbie, she's a real sweetie.  Lovely smile, snub nose, lots of curly hair.  Very proud of her baby girl, Harriet, who sometimes comes with her in the car.
The last Hermes courier was a lugubrious but chatty bugger with a beard.  The one before him got the elbow for tea-leafing (allegedly).
I'm tempted to buy quickly again from Bornagainmarketplace on Ebay in the knowledge they always use Hermes.

My wife, though, is WFH and hears every word!

Robbie - I haven't seen the Chinese Lady for a good few weeks now, disappointing , there is a very cute Nepalese Lady in the local wine bar I've been frequenting more lately, she gives you a nice little fist bump when you arrive or when she brings the drinks, my Wife was with me & some friends a couple of weeks ago not sure how the conversation went but my Mrs told the Nepalese Lady she could have me, if only..... Rob - you need to watch yourself with that up skirting lark, plenty of men dress as ladies these days, haha

HaHa. My missus and her mum were discussing family breakups yesterday and the wife giggled and said she no longer had worries about me running off with another women as I 'no longer had it in me!' They talk about me in Finnish not realising I understand almost every word.

Nothing popped in my letter box. I take the dog to collect the post which is delivered up the road and I rarely get anything here, but collect stuff for others in the 'commune'.

Oh, I did get a fucking tax bill even though I'm only allowed to stay on a 90 day maximum rule. I'm persona non Grata here.

A 1988 Burberry Kensington trench coat with lining. Bought to replace the other one I had which I had realised was a knock off, albeit a good one. This one came with the benefit of a button in liner and appears to have had little wear. £50 on eBay, no other bids. Mrs W, haviing paid full whack for hers in the Regent St store 3 or 4 years ago, is sick as a parrot.

Woof,
I fancy paying a visit to the specialist vintage Burberry place in Brick Lane for a fly front Mac.
Do you know of it?

^ I’m afraid not Alvey, I’ve mooched around Brick Lane plenty of times but never come across that.

Tomiskinky might know of it.

That’s a great score Woof! Nice one. A fly fronted Burberry’s been on my hit list for a while now. I don’t do Ebay so just waiting to catch one elsewhere.

My wife’s Grandad was a designer for Burberry in the 50’s and 60’s, so for years I held out hope of unearthing a stash in an attic or loft somewhere. Wasn’t to be.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Thanks Spenders - it’s the double breasted trench with rings on the belt for hanging grenades from, as per WW1 army officers. Not Ivy, but enough of a classic to stand up on it’s right. In the right weather I shall wear it unbuttoned with a shirt or sweater underneath, jeans and trainers, so it swirls around as I stride purposely along the street.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

In the Eighties I bought from their old Haymarket store a proper trench coat.

I was stupid and got rid of it because I got annoyed with constantly being called Inspector Gadget.

Great stuff. I’ve been wearing a navy fly fronted a lot recently. There’s something very satisfying, and as you say, purposeful about wearing it undone on a breezy day.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

I bought a Burberry trench in about 1977. After a few years I got fed up with it, and passed it on to my mum, who wore it till about 2006, and then she gave it to my wife, who wears it to this day. I can't remember how much it cost me, but it's certainly paid for itself several times over!

I was going to reply to say I don’t know, but Runninggeez had the answer.

Tbh, I only really go into Levisons, for a mooch and a chat or House of Vintage and very occasionally Beyond Retro (sometimes find a nice tie but sod all else)

Alvey,
I haven't, when researching vintage Burberry quite a while back they came up.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

A nice Oxford cloth BD Baggies from TKMaxx for a very reasonable £24.99.

These seem to have dropped (as the kids say) in the last day or so.

Variable styles and fits though. Tried on four. Two were disappointingly small collared. One was the dreaded ‘slim’ with no pleats. One spot on though. Nice three finger roll. Centre pleat.

25% success rate, which says it all about TK.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Spenders,
That is a great price. Well hunted sir.
Please can furnish the full details on BD at TK.
Did you spot online or in-store.
What colour Oxford did you go for - I think the pink is superb.
My understanding on their shirts is that there are two cuts. A fashion forward slim and also a regular but you still need to size up.
I'm off work on Wednesday so will have to have look.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Alvey. They were in store. Quite a few white and light blue non button downs which I didn’t look too closely at.

The cut of them all varied hugely. I’m a M/15’’ in any shirt generally. Always have been. The small collar ones were slim fit L and far too tight all over. Nice colours though. Plain navy and a light blue chambray colour.

Another L (reg fit) was a really interesting stripe. Good collar but no back pleat. It fitted okay everywhere apart from the forearms where it was far too tight (couldn’t slip the cuff over my watch!) Never come across that before.

The one I took, also L Reg, was a good fit everywhere and had centre back pleat. Kind of washed out white/blue/red gingham. That one I’m really happy with and probably would have bought it whatever the manufacturer.

I’ve honestly never come across such variation in fit, even in Gant. And that’s saying something!

You’re right though. That pink is nice. And I’ve got one eye out for a yellow one. But given my experience today I’ll certainly be trying before I buy.

Re: What's Just Popped Through Your Letterbox?

Thanks for the quick response.
Their chambray is really nice.
Yes, I only have one of their shirts due to complex sizing.
