Re: John Smedley: Too Overground Now For My Liking

One thing I do appreciate is that they do a long-sleeve polo.  I do not want people to see my arms.  Men should keep a good deal of their bodies covered when they reach a certain age (about fifteen, approximately).  I get pretty fed up seeing silly old buffers wearing shorts all year round.  I now rule out wearing them.

I have a lovely Smedley sea island long sleeve polo shirt. It's perfect for cooler evenings or when it's too warm for merino.

I like short sleeve sports shirts, especially in madras, as they go against the British idea of what's acceptable.

I detest that Hackett, New and Lingwood, Rugby shirts, RM Williams boots, Schoffel thing. They'll all be at Glastonbury this weekend having a jolly good time before going back to their sad jobs in the City next week.

"Oh what fun we had until they ran out of Pimms. Never mind next week we're all off to Rock for Seb's birthday"

In spite of the unfortunate 'Mod' affiliations, I'll probably look to Smedley for long-sleeve sea island cotton for the foreseeable future.
But, yes, that Hackett/rugby shirt nonsense is repellent.  I see Beams do a rugby shirt as part of their 'homage to Americana' or some such schtick.  Did O'Connell's ever go down that route?
Those people have little or nothing to do with Ivy League, though.  I mean the Glastonbury/Rock crowd, not those nice chaps in Buffalo.
(They do want a packet for their Anglo college scarves, though, don't they?).
