Tenuous link.... there are 2 JS madras shirts (size L), just come onto Maarkt this week, listed at £60 & £70, they're ' pre-owned' , on the listing for the £70 shirt it says RRP £ 175, I don't think so.....
Some nice Mingus jackets, the wool check one looks good, the Rancourt bit loafers (£450),
Stax - I thought the chap standing in the doorway of JS, looked good in the Olive Corduroy Mingus jacket.
Clever marketing with the Mingus Jacket as an alternative to the traditional Harrington jacket. I can't be the only one who puts on an old Harrington, looks in the mirror, and thinks 'nah, don't think so'
I wouldn't pay the £340 for a new Harrington and I'm not sure if I'd fork out for the Mingus although it does look good on the bloke in the doorway.
I thought the Lady wearing the check mingus in the doorway a few days ago looked better.... on the subject of harringtons I’ve only ever owned 3, olive green from the IS in 1968, a dark khaki Gant ( pre logo), from the IS ‘85, and a navy G4 from CS 6/7 years ago, still have the G4, it’s ok’ish, wear it on the odd occasion, always careful what I wear with it, usually khakis and a plain bd or polo, Sean at CS told me on my recent visit that they’re going to restock harringtons soon, not sure if they’re going to be JS brand or barracutas
Yes the lady looks good. Most of the clothes she is wearing could be worn by a bloke. My missus has worn my shirts, Harringtons, t shirts etc. Invariably they look good on her.
I have similar 'prescription' sun glasses as the lady. Who is she?
I have a Mingus and would recommend them.
Slightly different animal from a Harrington as longer.
From a personal point of view the tweed looks a bit more elegant too.
Harringtons tend not to suit me as the billow out on top ( Michelin man effect) and can cut me in two optically drawing attention to my short legs
Loop collar overshirts, made in London, now available at JS. £185. I wonder how they compare with an all wool Pendleton at £215. I suspect the Pendleton is superior?
Just seen them, look ok, I’d also be interested to know how they compare to the Pendleton,
there’s one at an eye watering £235......

I can relate to that but still like the Harrington/bomber style as a casual but smart option, when a raincoat or warm overcoat isn’t needed. The Grenfell version in G4 or G9 cut is worth a look - I remember Unseen Scene buying these and liking them. The Grenfell lining is more subdued than the Stewart tartan in the Baracuta and doesn’t shout ‘old bloke trying to look young’ to the same degree. The Baracuta is slightly debased in many eyes because of the 70s youth cult connection and the number of market stall knock-offs around. At a casual glance you can’t tell if isomeone is wearing the real deal or not.
Agree re: problems with Harringtons. I only sparingly wear my London Fog 'g4, in navy, and almost never in stone - usually I would do so with a brighter Shetland (salmon, gold etc) to avoid looking like an old man, or worse, a mod!
Looks like there are no side pockets for your hands in for the Mingus jacket.
Peter Christian offer tweed harringtons - if you want to buy from an old persons' site.
Tailored jackets offer more gravitas

Excellent looking shawl cardis on that site.
We are old people! Peter Christian drill jeans and moleskin trousers are ace.
If anyone is in JS could they provide me with shoulder to shoulder and length (boc) for the Biscuit colored cordsport coat in a 38 (https://johnsimons.co.uk/product/made-in-london-ivy-jacket-biscuit-corduroy/). I'd really appreciate it. I emailed JS but they never respond to my emails for some reason. Thanks in advance!
OCBD - I’m in there tomorrow, so I’ll check it out for you and post the info up on this thread.

New Vintage!
Pendleton Topster Jacket - circa 1960s
Call us on 020 3490 2729 for all enquiries or pop in for a look at 46 Chiltern Street, London W1
Tues to Sat 11am-6pm / Sun 12pm-5pm
Not sure I could wear this down the pub! Anyone in my circle would be very brave to try and carry this jacket off. It will end up in the back of someone's wardrobe. A similar patterned overshirt would be ok though

You'd need balls of steel to carry that off, be interesting to see what price they put it up for,
OCBD - ‘ If anyone is in JS could they provide me with shoulder to shoulder and length (boc) for the Biscuit colored cordsport coat in a 38’
… As requested
Armpit to armpit - 20 inches
Shoulder to shoulder - 18 inches
B.O.C. To hem - 30.5 inches
Sleeves shoulder to cuff - 26 inches
Worth thinking about the trousers too as it makes a nice casual winter suit.
FlatSixC - Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. Sadly it's a touch big in the shoulders for me.
Received a navy cord JS ivy jacket for my birthday - delighted to say the least. A lovely jacket. Was actually bought a size up from my usual, 42 rather than a 40 (long), but actually not a huge difference from most of my other jackets, and probably a little longer too which helps. I like the option of being able to wear a Shetland with a cord jacket, and suspect the shoulders on the 40 in the cord would be too narrow anyway.
A great, slouchy jacket that makes up for missing all those Keydges...
Very nice present Colin, are you going to go the full look with the matching trousers ? I wore my new JS overcoat a few days ago for the first time, very pleased with it, felt very comfortable over a Keydge wool jacket,
Considered it, but I wouldn't be able to cuff the trousers as I'm too tall. And for me, cords need to be cuffed unless worn in a 60s boom years trim high-water, high rise casual style....
The JS cord jacket has a slightly more ivy-in-Paris kind of vibe (must be the J Keydge similarities!) - I think why I'm liking the slightly slouchy fit of the size up.
I do love a cord suit - classic Tony Perkins look - but it risks standing out that bit too much in Britain (even in London), rather than keeping things under the radar, which is essential to my take on ivy, at least!

I have the JS cord jacket and trousers in dark brown and it does make a nice casual suit. Being shorter than you I would have had sufficient surplus cloth to have the trousers cuffed. But as the bottoms are quite narrow I concluded that cuffs wouldn’t look quite right so I went for plain hems.
