Has anyone got a picture of `The Man' Manton aka Nicholas Antongiavanni ? How about you L.K? A picture tells a 1,000 words (cheely wink).
All this talk about proper shoe soles makes me want to ask the opinion of posters here. I notice Edward Green makes a double leather sole. How do you feel that looks with shoes for a work suit or on a dressier boot like their Chelsea?
I just finished reading The Suit by Nicholas Antongiavanni.
It's a little hard to follow in many parts. I enjoyed several parts of it but I also find my reading mind constantly tuned out after a few pages
I can see why it would have been better if the title had been The Dandy. It doesn't quite work with The Suit as a substitute for Dandy.
I am trying to figure out who the target audience for this book was and whether it would better serve getting more people interested in clothes if it had not been written in such cryptic prose. I read on another board that it is supposed to be taken with a sense of irony. Although it occurs to me that comment might have been made by one of his apologists, having observed lots of the author's posts I rarely got the feeling he was the jovial type. From my observations his demeanor always seemed deadpan.

It's unpleasant that you can't discuss this book there without one of the author's apologists going off on you. I didn't see anything wrong with Chatterbox's comments at all. If you say something that doesn't serve thepurposes of a par6ticular clique, you are a Troll. If they rant and rave at you, you brought it on yourself. Bottomline is some people can say whatever they want be it positive or negative but you had better only say things they approve of. Take the hobnails off.
They seem to sense there is a scheme on Amazon's review section. Not everyone is going to like everything.

You know, Manton and his circle seem to pride themselves on being Classic Liberals but in circumstance they seem anything but.
What did Voltaire say but: "I disagree with what you have to say but will fight to the death to protect your right to say it."

Wow...the monk's ready to bust-a-nut over on Andy. He's straining to keep control of himself. A tenner says the thread'll be locked within a few hours; or one or more participants will get an e-mail from "Malinda". If I were Manton, I'd almost be embarassed (if a little touched) that the monk is so vigilant (if a tad irrational) on my behalf.
SOme of those deleted posts were a waste of time and bandwidth. A little lighthearted fun, no beatings please.
Back to discussing the book, that means both its merits and any supported criticisms.
Thanks.
Very good but lets all stick to the book. As you might imagine my plans were washed away by the Monsoon tonight so Im around and Im a little grumpy at what was removed from under my nose tonight in terms of extra curricular activities.
