Re: Tech Ivy

some late comments on Blueprint 1957:

post #324:

desktop tableau includes class ring, student meal ticket booklet, bottle of Old Spice aftershave, framed picture of sweetheart, loose change, Little Ben Westclox alarm clock, stud box, ROTC cadet sergeant chevron and pins, calendar, academic weekly spiral datebook  .....

post #325:

flat-topped kid wearing busy checked shirt with small buttondown collar, with white t-shirt underneath, lighting cigarette with wooden match out of matchbox ....

three guys sitting on a low wall, all wearing shiny black oxford shoes, couple with white socks, one in a suit with cuffed trousers, one in blue blazer or odd jacket and khaki chinos, one in a striped sport coat, all in striped repp ties and white shirts ....

two guys at a basketball game maybe ... one in striped jivey sport shirt and one in plain-collared checked sport shirt, both with white t-shirts underneath ... guy in upturned-brim fedora and Wayfarer-type dark sunglasses with smirk is a wildman .....

post #326:

tennis player at the net is actually wearing a classic wool tennis/cricket cable sweater with striped v-neck, white t-shirt, white shorts of the perfect length, cream wool Wigwam socks, canvas deck-style tennis shoes ..... very nice court clothes ... can't see the ball though .....

smiling short-haired guy in plain-collared white buttondown shirt, khaki chinos, loafers, and nice v-neck sweater ....

young football coach with downward look is Jack Griffin, who played end on the Tech teams of the late '40s, became the head of the Georgia Tech offense in 1956, and is well-regarded for having instituted compulsory study hall for athletes .... he wears a great single-breasted overcoat with beautiful welted lapels, dome buttons, worsted trousers, bd shirt, solid tie ....

player behind him is #11, quarterback/safety/kicker Wade Mitchell, Tech star and Redskins draft pick, and behind him is #89, Don Ellis, right end ... note the football lacing on the pants and the integral belts with metal buckles .....

flat-top kid at desk studying, wearing jivey dark striped button-collar shirt with white t-shirt underneath, khaki chinos .....

post #327:

four guys on the steps of Research Area No. 2 ....

one in a baggy dark suit;

one in a natural-shoulder two-button sport coat with open patch pockets, too-short square-end narrow tie with tie clip, spread collar white shirt, dark trousers, shiny black shoes;

one in a poorly fitting pale sport coat that is too long in the body and sleeves and too broad in the shoulders, loud tie, dark trousers, and white bucks, who looks clownish;

and finally one in a broad shouldered striped sport coat, too long again and a bit too stripey .....

legendary football coach Bobby Dodd in a classic hooded snap-front wool varsity/sideline jacket with heavy piping and striped ribbed wool knit cuffs over a soft white polo shirt

kid sitting on low brick wall wears a classic snap-front wool varsity jacket with contrasting white leather sleeves, stand-up collar, striped ribbed knit cuffs, along with an ocbd, with cuffed khaki chinos, white socks, Weejuns penny loafers

more later

I think it was commonplace at the time for groups of American males to get a kick out of lifting small European automobiles.

Re: Tech Ivy

good work WM , thanks. The image of the guys at the pool table troubles me slightly - a couple of those dudes have their shirts untucked. Now that surely ain't ivy is it? Unless your at the beach maybe the it is just about acceptable. I thought the untucked thing was a late C20 phenomenon adopted by certain portly males to conceal middle-aged spread.
