Me too.

More to the topic, I just can't be bothered to prep my coif only to mess it up by repeatedly putting on a cap.  I may feel differently if I was living in a colder clime.  If I must don a hat, it's usually just a skull cap like old Jack up there.  I used to have an old flappy number.  Not sure what happened to it.  May still have it stowed.  Plus my tiny peanut head isn't accommodating to many tops.

I have a couple of Stormies.  One old red plaid one from the days when the hats were made in Milwaukee and one new one with much better insulation and more useful flaps.

My wife calls them my "IQ Lowering Hats", but they sure are warm.

The only real option for winter hats in my opinion. Unless you actively seek ridicule (maybe you get off on it sexually,  I dunno) in which case buy a Stormy Kronos.

Thank you for your time.

PS.  Apologies for the similarity between the image posted and the one which sent Andy B reeling that one time and nearly ruined the whole forum.

Remember? That time he made Jim cry?

If you're reading this Andrew, take it easy bruv.

I think I did the first Watch Cap thread... Not sure. Mine was/is a little number in Charcoal wool from Paris.

Andy was great.

'Ruined the whole forum' ?    ....   No.    Not even remotely & neither did I.   We're here today which proves my point.

But I do acknowledge that A. found it hard to cope with a very real and busy life and the realisation that the wonderful sacred golden Internet was in reality just a pile of pants.

I don't even think he cared that much about the Net. It was his own very real and busy life quite rightly that held his attention. The Net was just a diversion... But finding out that it was all poo didn't help him...

Nice guy. I miss our chats on the phone.

I was only joking Jimbo. I know he never really ruined nothing nearly.  But he did make you cry and for that I'll not never forgive him.

My watch caps are all US army/navy surplus. You can still get them very cheaply on ebay. Still US made too.

I think the surplus ones on eBay UK are made by rothco. So sadly, they aren't genuine surplus. Still good 'n' cheap though.

Anybody have any other wool watch cap suggestions that would be available in the UK? The buzz rickson ones look nice but nae £60 nice!

I didn't know that. The only label on my ones where a wee white paper tab which said '100% Wool Made in USA'. The listing said they were surplus. Very likely not though.

Cheers for the info Don.

If you cats are cool with Orlon...

No, let me start again:

If you can live with acrylic, look out for Wigwam's US-made Alcatraz beanie at $7. Not just navy either.

Since I read this damn thread, the idea of one these "bobcaps" has been growing on me. My knitted caps are black and dark navy, so a little bit of lighter shades would be nice. I like the navy/white by J Press (We won't go TOO light). http://www.jpressonline.com/bobcap-navy-white/

Does anybody have an idea who makes those in Scotland?

Just to get a repp..

I recently lost a beautiful hand-knitted beanie in a flecked Donegal tweed, like this one:

The photo doesn't do justice to the depth of colour or the subtle range of flecks.

I'm now wearing a much less interesting, light grey beanie most of the time. The colour does look good with pretty much everything though.

There seem to lots of sellers on ebay offering these, or at least they're all using the same photo anyway. I bought one ..... good quality heavy knit and nice soft wool. I reckon it'll last me for years. If you are thinking of getting one I happily recommend this seller:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/watch-cap-us-ma … 2ecbb8b25e

He gave me a $4 dollar refund as he only charges the actual cost of postage which is such a nice change from the usual money grabbers. He also has some great surplus items for sale including some mean NOS army underpants.

Re: Did you know you lose 103% of body heat through your head!

I know how you dressing up people like rules so here's how you should do it:

What is the policy for wearing the Knit Cap (Watch Cap)?
U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations, Chapter One, Section 5, Article 1501.1b and Chapter Three, Section 5, Article 3501.11:

“b.  Prescribable Items.  Uniform items which may be directed or authorized for wear with the basic uniform.  Prescribable items may be worn with basic uniform at the individual's discretion unless otherwise directed.”

“Correct Wear.  Double folded approximately 2-1/2 inches - 3 inches, worn diagonally from the base of the back of the head, across the ears and on the forehead with the bottom of the fold 1/4 inches above the eyebrows.  The watch cap will be worn snugly on the head.”

When authorized by appropriate authority, it will be worn during cold weather conditions that may result in personal injury if not worn.   Rank/rate insignia is not authorized to be worn on the watchcap.

It is a shame there are no uniform regulations for Ushanka. Too many tilted back on the head. For example at the Pussy Riot trial and also the Greenpeace trial. Distance above the eyebrow needs to be specified. Fringe showing should result in a flogging.

What a lovely thing to say on the tag!

Looking forward to the temperature going down I must say..seems pretty comfy even for an old fathead like mine...
