I find these the perfect socks for desert boots myself, well-cushioned.
Vintage blue with a white stripe Brooks OCBD, white FOTL T-shirt, beige no name lambswool crewneck pullover sweater, very unironed German dept. store khakis, mainly red Falke argyle socks, Alden longwings, mainly green plaid cashmere scarf, stolen, my oldest second hand pea coat, and a new haircut that I'm not happy with...
white BD baggie
slim Dockers
DAKS mohair jacket
oxblood weejies
and similar coloured knitted tie
with a Raymond Chandler under my arm ![]()
Ghastly press association conference in Boston over weekend. This chronologically-arranged sequence gives you some idea of where my mind was:
Park Plaza, Boston, Friday. All business, but dapper attire wasted on fat old guys from New Hampshire. Nary a jeune fille in the joint.
Saturday - Went into rumpled mode. Still no girls. It's a rare occasion that makes me wish I still drank.
At the naughty store on Boylston St. A lady friend who has been known to wear similar items is coming for a visit Thursday.

Now that IS a very nice desert boot Chris. Really like a 50s model, replete with back seam and rounded toe box and the colour is perfect. Dare I say it better than 'the brand leader' they mention.
Damn i wish I hadn't seen those I can feel a purchase coming on...

.....me too Lands' End seems to be upping its game lately.
Did it. Bought a pair.
They can always go back if they're not as nice in real life, but I think they look pretty damn nice. Remember our conversation recently Chris about 2 or 3 eyelets? These look so well balanced.
And so good to see someone selling a natural edged crepe sole desert boot in a darker colour. Now if only someone would do a snuff playboy with natural colour bumpers. Ah...
They look like desert boots worn in the original Flight of the Phoenix...
Agree on the LE DBs; very nice looking boot.
Also noticed chambray '3BD' shirts (also in a very handsome white), and some great looking camp shirts in the last catalogue.
Nice boot, expensive though... Although on the upside, one of the few things that aren't more expensive on German LE

I saw those on the site, but the images made the collars and button placement look very strange so I didn't get one. The collars on the sueded poplin are good but I also bought a flannel plaid and the collar has no roll at all. RL length but not even as nice. Always hard to second guess these things from this kind of retailer.
I suppose the good thing is you can always return stuff

Agreed. They look very nice indeed. Top of my shopping list without a doubt.

Johnston & Murphy Aristocraft Ski-Mocs
An incongruous silly name for a loafer, like something the Japanese might come up with. Big baroque loafer, the double-soled brogue of mocs.
These benefitted from a good polish last night to tone down the reddish hues.
navy socks
Argyle would look far too busy with the Ski-Mocs, what with all that beefrool, welt and kicker action going on down there.
Sometimes I think a whole drawerful of navy socks, and nothing but navy socks, would be a great idea.
H&M 'Sliq' jeans, nicely worn in. Mine have unadorned back pockets, but the extra stitching is is a quick job to remove.
Regent Belt Co. very dark brown, brass buckled belt.
If you're looking for a belt, there are worse addresses. Well-made and inexpensive.
white Hanes Top-T
The Hanes Beefy is just a bit nicer, but I have a bunch of these too. I like the fit.
BB Black Fleece shirt - damn good shirt, if a little over-designed what with its split yoke and little loop on the back. Good, fairly conservative fit (BB1 for me), even if I have to give the cuffs a half-turn back on themselves (no problem with the crisp broadcloth). Must be this Tom Brown guy's style, sleeves and everything a bit too long... ![]()
navy merino sweater vest
Tschibo. You can find them between the coffee and the tableware.
I love the German word for these: Pullunder
'Sportsman' by Richman Brothers sack jacket
Lightish grey Harris tweed in that old-skool waffle-like pattern, not seen anymore in jackets - but sometimes covering trendier sofas. Black leather football buttons.
This dates to 1970, and compared to earlier 1960s sacks the construction is a little simpler and less detailed.
I sometimes wonder if the two types of sack jackets co-existed for a while, as Homo Sapiens and the Neandertalers may have done?
Casio 'Oceanus' (what was I saying about Japanese product names?
) black-faced GMT watch, on 'James Bond' NATO strap

likewise. nice add-onto my somewhat catastrophic finances!
Those Lands End Desert Boots again.
The images on the site are OK but you can see the form and style better in these pics from the US Canvas website - forget the rolled up painter jeans, he's only showing the boots for us to check out.
I like the fact they are chunkier than Clarks (always felt the sole was too thin) and more like a goodyear welted pair. I'm hoping they're as well made as the current Sebago models but nice cut and 2 eyelets.
