I'm not ashamed to say I trust you lot.

It'd better be good tongue

I rather think that our crew mentioned Sero first over there...  wink  Welcome to the club!

Now is Sero "Trad"... ?

Nope. It was a brand for everybody. They made for countless little local shops. No snobbery, no faux elitism about Sero.

I pulled out a 'Serox' shirt yesterday from the old Ivy attic - A poly-cotton Sero from the 80's bought for the uber- collar roll on it. Ring any bells? A shirt well worth showing to Mr. Jantzen I think along with the old 'Par-Ex of New Haven'... But first things first - Job number one is to work on reproducing 'The Purist' while The Weejun works on bringing back all those long lost treats for the feet and John Simons brings back the Boom Years cut Chino to go with his original Baracuta cut Grenfell "Bramble" G9.

Who says we can't do these things?

Not me. Nobody else is doing any of this.

Best -

An explicitly apt name that, Sero "The Purist", as far as I'm concerned big_smile

I can see the attraction these shirts have for you lot and I like those pics a lot too. I reality however I just like these shirts as a museum piece, no offence yet wholeheartedly meant....

Each to their own Alex - You do what you do better than most. I'm just trying to cover another end of the spectrum.

For me the shirts are a living classic style. Timeless.

Just teasing, Jim. I really like what you guys are planning as for recreating certain pieces of clothing, shoe idea by the Weejun is great too. Think I might fancy a pair of Playboy boots in due time smile

Just picked up this beauty from one of the tradleys over there. Lovely soft handle cashmere and fits perfectly too.

Forgot to mention it's a Corbin

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Yes and unlike some 3/2 60s jackets I've had in the past, the whole thing seems to be cut as if it were all leading to the centre button like a one button shawl collar tux, and therefore unlike those jackets it demands the button being done up and doesn't hang correctly as an open jacket.

It's interesting.

I have the same thing on a Huntington 3/2 made of green austrian Loden that I bought on the 'Bay at christmas

Just unpacked and washed this.

It's very nice indeed, thanks to all who recommended these.

It was sold to me as 1950s vintage but it could well be a 1983 number, the label has a code "8301".

The linen like fabric must be the "oxford voile" as described in the ad D&F posted, I think it says "the luxury of zephyr-weight all-combed cotton oxford dominates the summer scene".

Well Done That Man!

My yellow vintage one is the same kind of toile - summer weight I guess and a little bit see through whereas the green one is heavier.

I think the label looks older than 83, but of course the store may well have stuck to a vintage style label and seen no reason to update it.

>> Doh! Voile not Toile - Toil was what it took to find one!

The price reflects an 80s price point.  $24 in the 1960s would have been exhorbitant for a shirt.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Just to confuse things a bit more, today I'm wearing one of the original NOS shirts I got from the US recently, a blue oxford with locker loop and collar button, reasonably full cut and a made for a store model, with the tags inside reading Diamonds of Northeastern Ohio and Single Needle Tailoring.

I had thought from the details that this shirt was made by GANT but when I just checked the ink stamp on the front left shirt tail it simply has stamped

16 8301 4 8

The old 8301 again...

The material is a fairly soft oxford and not at all like the SERO shirt I have.

I wonder what that's about? Could be coincedence I suppose that the shirt was also made in Jan 1983, but that's a bit of a stretch.

great find BoO. I love those thinner lapels on sack jackets.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

The deadstock Johnston & Murphy Aristocraft Ski Mocs turned up today.

Postie made me give £12 to Gordon and co before he'd hand them over. Oh well.

Second slight downer was that they are not US made but made in Mexico.

Having said that the seller was right they are old stock, the box is totally different from recent ones, the leather and construction excellent.

These loafers are hefty and to be honest, I don't think I could tell if it hadn't been stamped MiM inside. The Aristocraft seat sock logo is really old too, nothing like the current one, strange. Maybe J&M moved some models offshore years ago. They must be at least 10 years old and I can't find any evidence of an Aristocraft Ski Moc in recent production, just the 'standard' one.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Three pairs of Wilton made Weejuns.

one from 1981 with the plastic plug in the heel and one from mid 80s - both in proper oxblood antique brown. They arrived today from a seller who has more in size 10.5 and a super rare BLUE pair in 11C for sale. Not the cheapest but it's hard to find these in mint condition.

The older pair is bigger than the later ones, but both have a chunkiness now lost on modern ones not to mention proper coloured cowhide uppers in place of spray on corrected crap.

PM me if you are interested in this guy's others

Third pair just picked up on Ebay. Had a bit of a late afternoon nap (been up at sparrows fart every day since last friday - that's my excuse) and was woke up to see a brand new pair of mid 80s antique brown tassel weejuns in my size on a buy it now for 45 bucks. Given that is cheaper than the cheapest new pair of offshore made, I had to press the button immediately.

The tassels were always my second choice, but in recent months I've had a leaning towards another pair (not had one since about 85) and can see them with a nice pair of flat front grey flannels I have with no break...

Weejun, beautiful shoes. So much good stuff on this thread. I know it has been said before but BoO really has the eye for this stuff. He really finds the best stuff. I'm really liking the shirts as of late. Thanks everyone for uploading their pics.

Not shoes this time but a fantastic deadstock Maple Sportswear warm up jacket. Bidding went high on this, but I decided I had to have it. Strange this is that I knew when I woke up exactly how much I'd had to pay for it even before going online. Weird!

^ Really nice.

We don't see many varsity/baseball/monkey type jackets over here...
Which reminds me, I still need to post the old wool Champion issued for the US Navy I picked up recently.

It reminds me of a thread I read some time ago on AAAT (that in hindsight may have been Russell taking the p*ss) where someone was asking what a trad could wear to the gym...

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

An old jacket that belonged to a Mr. J.C. Williams. Apparently he originally purchased it at the "U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Ship's Service Store" in Kings Point, NY.
The partially hidden tag (the top is sewn under the collar) says "Rochester NY", which tells me the jacket is made by Champion. It's unlined proper navy wool, and I was pleasantly suprised to see the accent colour isn't white like I thought from the auction pictures, but grey. My guess is it's from the 1950s. It's nice and short in the body and it fits me like a dream, even the sleeve length is perfect.

That's exactly the classic look I like of that kind of jacket. Dead simple and great colour.
