I bought an old pair of these Saxone 'Weegians' (as they used to brand them) from Johnny Simons just before he closed. They are really fabulous shoes - proper oxblood, unlined, leather heels. Amazing that these basic, classic Made in England shoes are not sold in the UK. One sees them everywhere in Italy, Portugal, Spain, and, occasionally, in France. The British toff doesn't particularly go for the loafer I feel, always preferring those tedious British brogues or oxfords. Has the best stuff in the UK always been 'made for export'?
