A slight aside and a bit of trivia:
The first time JFK met Harold McMillan both men were at that time wearing orthopedic corsets, as both had serious back injuries resulting from wartime service. Or so the story goes.
And now there's toast all over the computer!
As I am on a Tom Wolfe high at the moment (I'm at that wonderful age where I've forgotten so much that I once knew each day is full of wonderful new/old discoveries...)
Can I recommend Wolfe's '66 essay 'The Loverboy of the Bourgeoisie'? Neatly done and all about Mr. Grant. Entertainment & information all in the classic Wolfe style.
Very fond of Wolfe. We have an Englishman who does his act very well too called Peter York. Very fond of Peter York...

I knew YOU'D know it!
And, yes, 40 years ago. Vintage TW stands up very well I think.
I'd forgotten about the Monkies! I used to like the Sex Pistols version of their 'Stepping Stone'. It seemed a wonderfully unlikely band for them to cover.
You might like Peter York's 'Modern Times' collection of esays. He has a nice conversational style, always a little off-hand just on the fringe of 'camp'. His collection 'Style Wars' is a bit more heavyweight, but still very informative and a lot of fun. He was THE English 'style guru' of the 80's.
I just watched NxNW again. My wife bought a few books on the film too. She's into it. One in particular, a slim volume, with the same title of the film, is published by Longman's/York Press in 2001. Packed full of interesting info.
I had a chance to look at the film again, paying attention to the style, in light of all the interesting comments by Grayson, RT, and others, and will comment further anon.
Now I got it straight. Peter York the style guy; looked him up. And Peter Tork, the former Monkey, who, ironically, was in town playing a gig with Mike Nesbith, also a former Monkey.
Eva Marie Saint's legs stole the show in North by Northwest. First time CG's suits were upstaged : )

A nice bit of Peter York for those new to him.
Avalon05 posted this over at AAAC: Looks like Kilgour is remaking the NxNW suit.

Where's the post about N by NW being voted the most stylish movie--was it in the UK GQ? Anybody kind enough to direct this lost soul to it?
