As interesting as this is, I cannot help but think that these are not the measurements by which men are judged.

l can get clothes locally but i'll put myself down for shoos. l want vintage NOS American longwing gunboats, that's it.

l would really like a `sacksuit' but i'll probably end up getting an ill fitting coat if l order online. Such a bleedin' shame, i've actually wanted a sacksuit for a few years now, l think it would really suit me. The structureless look really appeals to me.

Sacks suits and jackets are the the only ones I will buy unseen now - once you know your shoulder measurement you're set. I find the fit very uncomplicated.

I have always been lucky with Brooks Brothers.

Shirts: 15/33
Jackets: 36/37R (shoulders should be narrower than 18")
Trousers: 32W 31L
Shoes: 8 1/2 E to 9 D or E depending on last.
Sweaters: Small

I'm most interested in sack sports coats with narrow lapels... and button-downs.

l'm amazed at all the small coat sizes, l was always under the impression that you blokes were [nearlly all] giants. l always thought the average bloke from your way had an average of size 11 - 12 AAA shoo and size 50 in coats. Now i'm starting to imagine that many of you would be tall fellas with narrow shoulders and carrots for feet.

tall = 5.11 and taller

wish l had carrots for feet.

Although there are some exceptions...

Exceptions: in Alden Longwings/ Bluchers (on the Barrie) last I take a 9.5, because they are rather wide... in Clarks Desert Boots a UK 9 is alright, but in pointy shoes like the Sanders Hi-Top Crepe sole Chukka boots, I have to size up to UK 10/ US 11, because my feet are too broad in the front for their tapered silhouette....



some more exceptions: sometimes jackets labelled as 42R also fit alright, especially for sports jackets, if I want to wear a Shetland sweater underneath that's okay....

Shoulders should be 18" in general, but a 18.5" can be alright, too, and a little smaller might be okay as long as the chest is wide enough. Chest pit-to-pit should be 21.5", waist can be a little smaller...
Trouser width is about 34", now, but I hope to get slimmer again... Just a few years back I was a 32", but I won't complain, as I already lost a little bit. When I gave up smoking, nothing fit and even 34" was tight.


Shirts could also be: 16.5 collar (for dess shirts, because I like a little more space than necessary) or a 15.5 (for casual shirts like a Madras short sleeve, as I always wear them open-neck without a tie). Sleeve length is best 34, as I like to show some cuff, but 33 isn't bad as well. I prefer full cut shirts, but slim fits are okay, too.
