Re: London:

I am really enjoying this series, RS. As an American studying in the UK, I had spent my time making the rounds in London, absorbing what I could about this fascinating little pocket of London Modernism. I had visions of writing my masters thesis on the American influence on the whole 'Flamingo scene'.

A good friend of mine had done a lot of footwork interviewing some of those cats... I'll have to bother him again about getting his notes. I do recall something about Mick Eve recounting popping out to see Sonny Rollins between sets in '65...

Re: London:

And you know the story about Sonny Rollins staying in Ronnie's all night to write the music for 'Alfie' -

Re: London:

There's a lot of other jazz cats from the London scene that we could talk about... Phil Seamen, Dizzy Reece, Eddie Harvey, Harold McNair, Joe Harriott, Peter King, Tony Crombie... A shame that there are so few pictures!

Here's a Dizzy Reece page:

Re: London:

Great stuff.

Interesting to read on Wikipedia that Phil Seamen onced teamed up with George Chisholm.

A great name for a duo, Seamen & Chisholm.
