Watchstrap Rut?

I have various watches & numerous watchstraps dating back to 'James' on New Row via Brooks & The Crimson Shop along the way to RTL & Smart Turnout. I've got CentralWatch bands too , but I really don't rate them...

Anyway, all I've worn for ages now has been an RTL 'Beater' Watch & an RTL plain RAF Navy G10.

- In a rut, but happy there.

You?

What's your one watch, one strap choice?

Or what would be, if you had to choose?

J.

Re: Watchstrap Rut?

^Oh don't start me on wristwatches! I'm a collector and have bought and sold some beautiful vintage pieces over the years. My favourite watch that I own? A 1963 Rolex Submariner ref:5513 on its original rivetted bracelet. The one that I wear every day? A 1977 Rolex Submariner ref:5513 on its original bracelet. So yes, i guess that my favourite 'strap' is a stainless steel 'form-fit' bracelet. That said I love a grained black leather strap too - the type used by many makes in the 50's & 60's. There's one fitted to a lovely 1960's Breitling chronograph that I'm parting with on Ebay at the moment. The model worn by Raquel Welch in the spy movie "Fathom".

Right. I promise to shut up now.

I really like old watches & if I had the money I would love a vintage Submariner. By the way, what does RTL stand for? Currently I'm wearing a timex, inspired by Blue Magic, with a Scots Guard strap.

Re: Watchstrap Rut?

Wait, I thought striped watch bands were the purview of iGent Trads.

So confused.

Re: Watchstrap Rut?

They pre-date all of them.

And Preppy too.

We wore them on our Timex in the '60s & '70s. Others wore them before.

I love you, but for as long as you start with 'Trad' & then try to fit everything into that framework you are deliberately donning blinkers which will stop you from ever really seeing Classic Traditional American style.

Your choice.

Best -

As with most things iGent Trad, it's probably only the insistance that item x is the only legitimate thing to wear, that makes it iGent Trad....

Re: Watchstrap Rut?

Although it's the only thing I wear, I've never advocated (and can't remember anyone who has) a position that it's the only way to wear a watch.

And Jim, you know my position on this topic:  I think labels are dumb.  I'm a JPress man.  You learned at John's shop, I learned it at Press.  I'm for the basics, whatever you want to call it:  sack coats, rep ties, plain shirts, loafers, casual-in-a-suit, dressy-in-shorts, you know, all the stuff we've talked about for years.  Oh, and a little AQG thrown in for fun.

I like stripes. Guns, too. Dang.

The one I wear most is navy and gold, don't ask me why.

Otter : Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon : I thought you were pre-med.
Otter : What's the difference?

Oh - And 'Harris' initially decreed Grosgrain with everything.

Until he flip-flopped on that one too.

Re: Watchstrap Rut?

I'm lucky enough to have a watch from each of my great-grandfathers.

One is a hell bros, its fairly sleek and I rarely wear it.

The daily wear one is a whiteface omega seamaster, on its original band. I haven't gotten around to pcking up any watch straps yet, but wouldn't mind a few to swap out......
