Oy!

God, I hope this lad is savvy enough to exploit Chensvold more than Chensvold tries to exploit him.

I have my fingers & toes crossed for the chap.

Is it just me or have you noticed how Chensvolds prey is getting younger?

"Call the Cops" as Shaun Rider would say...  wink

Re: Oy!

Got to support a 16 year old into Ivy though - I wish him very well.

Here's hoping that Chensvold will behave himself with him.

Re: Oy!

I enjoyed the blog and can forgive a sixteen year-old the enthusiasm for supercars.

Good work.

Re: Oy!

I'm not sure about this kind of blog. I think this level of self obsession is unhealthy. This is not that far away from whatjamesiswearing.com. It's all 'I' and 'Me'. Who really cares other than the writer.
I love the Selvedge Yard as a blog because it's more 'Have a look at this, you might like it too'. Rather than 'Look at me, I'm totally fantastic'.

"By the ’80s, things were much different, and the budding man of style had to rely increasingly on books, magazines and movies."

Oh please - for the original style we're still going to see old films and searching for old copies of playboy/esquire/town!! We aren't all content with his blog and Inventory magazine(though it isn't too bad...).

Re: Oy!

The idea of there being a spectrum is the key thing to hold on to.  Being a bit of an old fascist in my heart of hearts I'm still inclined to think of it as a hierarchy, but the best thing to do when I start talking like that is just to pass me a cup of tea, pat me on the hand & change the subject...

A multiplicity of perspectives is essential for TNSIL because the style was so multifaceted itself.

... We had a thing online a few years back called 'Trad' which tried to appropriate, re-brand, re-name, edit, dumb-down and police TNSIL...  An experiment which failed.

We'd all be wise not to fall into that same trap again.

Mr Christian M. Chensvold, aspiring scribe and co-founder of the 'Ivy-Style' blog with the non-existent 'Russell Street', I suspect is actually more of a neophyte when it comes to all of this than the new blogger boy. All have their place and contribution to make: the wise, the wonderful, the fools, the frauds, the farts, the freaks and the fakes.

Let us cherish the tweedy rainbow.
