Re: tie help for tonite...

well, asuming that the shirt collar is smallish (as it would have been in '62) then a narrow vintage tie in a plain dark colour (grey, navy, black) would suit best. Could have subtly patterns on it (be they diagonal stripes or dots). Early 60's wasnt a very colourfull period (fashion wise of course) unless you were a soho (London) extrovert

Also a knit tie in a dark colour

Third attempt would be a vintage rep tie in blues/burgundy/white schemes (quite easy to find).

Socks in theory should be intone with trousers although I do not abaide by this rule

Have a good evening

Re: tie help for tonite...

Thanks gang.

I might just go with Claudio's repp suggestion (I have a similar one IIRC in burgundy/cream/black), if all fails plain black silk knit. Maybe navy with narrow silver stripes.

Funny how six inches of tie is such a big deal sometimes...

Re: tie help for tonite...

The Tan OCBD was a big item back in the day. Largely forgotten now.

Re: tie help for tonite...

Brooks indeed also had Green, Blue, White, Yellow, 'Helio' (Pale Purple-ish), Peach, Ecru, Pink & 'Stone' (Pale Grey) classic solid OCBDs

The Tan was more of a 30's / 40's / 50's / 60's thing, I think.

I've been looking for a grey one and a green one for ages! or "stone" an "lime"...

Re: tie help for tonite...

Who knows for sure, but this is thought to be a custom job from the Andover Shop:

1958.

It isn't the Brooks Green, anyway. Even allowing for a filter on the camera, etc.

Maybe it's Paul Stuart, seeing as Miles was dressed by them for KOB in '59:

... And I'd say it was at least Pinpoint & not regular Oxford...

Andover's Broadcloth BD was a Horace favourite which he introduced me to. Most Troy like.

Oh how I miss Troy... And oh how I miss Horace.

Re: tie help for tonite...

A proper tan BD/point collar is proving a bugger to find too.
