Re: Ivy League style for today

There is a very good second-hand store in Seven Dials which has been open for about six months. The chaps who run it really know their stuff but the items are priced accordingly. Small stock but all very interestingly put together. They had a few nice canvas hunting coats and some great Mackinaws from the likes of Bean, Filson and Woolrich. Seeing those really puts a dent in thinking that these brands can ever be anything like they once were as those vintage items are genuinely stunning compared to modern utility sports clothing from those sources.

Nicest things were the USN peacoats. The WWII issue with smooth Kersey wool, throat latch and big collar is so far removed from the modern incarnation as to be heartbreaking. They wanted £255 for those. Steep compared to what you can ebay them for but under half the price of Buzz Rickson's thread-for-thread copies.

Can't remember what it's called but you'll know it when you walk in there as it's such a contrast from all the other shops selling apparently similar stuff in the same street. The others are jumble sales while this is a pleasing echo of what Flip once was but on a tiny scale.

No Ivy as such, as the main flavour appears to be inspired by workwear/sporting apparel and militaria, but I would hazard that could be explained away as possibly seasonal. Spring and summer might see pieces of madras and seersucker creeping in there.

I love what you've done here with these individual shots Riley. I think Moose began the idea and it all works really well.
Love the watch, by the way. Is it old?

Aah, we are getting arty. Well done Heikki, at least you are putting some thought and effort into your pics. Like the deep red and the grey. Nice...

No H, I really like the newsboy cap. I favour them myself. They look better with wear though. They don't tend to sit so square on your head. They tend to slouch over more to one side and look much better.

For the life of me, I shall never understand this forum's obsession with brothel creepers.  Wear 'em in good health, but don't sneer at me when I wear my embroidered trousers.
