As a term it is in fact even more fake and made up than 'Trad'. Ken Pollock made up "TNSIL" on Ask Andy About Clothes a while before we created the 'Trad' forum.
- "Traditional Natural Shoulder Ivy League".
His use of Traditional wasn't linked to 'Trad' (which came from Japan via Flusser, Tom22, GoPreppy & the boy Harris), but it was a happy accident.
It's not a term with any value outside the MBs. And the attempt to invest 'Trad' with some meaning outside Japan still isn't going too well either... Still, it sells shirts to the iPunters...

Right down the bottom. And a correct definition too - almost.
"Controversially, in a recently revised form, a version of this style is sometimes promoted and marketed online as "American Trad" or simply "Trad.", although there are marked differences between the two styles. 'Trad' being considerably narrower in scope than the original Ivy League style."
^ Looks like me times three confusing things!
Pollock's take on the style is pretty good, though. He just made up his own name for it. In his Ivy-Style interview he pointed out how Trad still had a long way to go towards being Ivy League. He noted that they even lacked the basics like Olive Green Herringbone suits.
^ Some shaping at the waist there too!
Tony's a great guy. One of the few with a wide enough perspective to talk about all this. One of us.
Pretty much you can tell who's who by what they call the style. Simple as that.
I have to laugh along with Wiki - 'Trad' is more traditionally known as Ivy League? A bit of a blow for Trad's traditional status, surely?
Never mind.
What's in a name?
Much.
