Cool stuff.
The 'American' type with the black rollneck, avio/grey tweed, shades and gloves looks like me today:-)

It would be also interesting to have a captions' translation...

Re: Tweed UK vs US drawings

Classic Free & Easy graphics.

When I was in Tokyo in November I made a pilgrimage to the Free & Easy magazine's so called Rugged Museum, a high tech museum dedicated to the history of americana. I was hoping to find amazing vintage work boots, great replica chambrays, unusual Lee and levis vintage etc.

Actually it was pretty lame. Mrs Weejun couldn't believe after so much effort to get there that I bought nothing but a few back issues of F&E. The original pieces they had were nice, many of these expertly displayed inside glass cabinets (most for sale) and prices reasonable seeing as Japan is where all vintage ends its life.

However the much vaunted own label stuff and the other modern pieces were awful, really over designed in kind of Oi Polloi way - extraneous btis of detailing etc. I have to admit that Uniqlo was more authentic.

Although I was trying not to actively look for this stuff there (in order to save dollars and sanity) the best store I found was called 2nd Boom in Ebisu and they had an awesome selection of deadstock mocc toe workboots and other great items and not so expensive and not so pretentious as the Rugged Museum.

The magazine is fun though if you can find them for not too much money. Japan Centre in Regent St stocks them at £17 a pop

Daniele. Don't wear the black roll neck. Moose said you would look like the Milk Tray man...

^Ha! Well I'm actually sitting here at the moment wearing a black roll neck feeling like I've been tucking into the Christmas Milk Tray rather than delivering it. Memo to self: health and efficiency in the New Year (No, not the magazine)

There was indeed a film of the book with a Jazz piano soundtrack.

I have the Ivy Illustrated menswear book. I used to have Womenswear as well but I stupidly lent it to a "friend" and never saw it again.
I'll try & steal the scanner from work tomorrow & scan some bits and bobs in, it's pretty cool in a really daft-yet-inspiring way.
