Re: Ivy League style for today

Dear Ivy-Talkers, I wish to say “Hello” to the people from whom I really learned a lot. And who may become fellow travellers on that road to Ivy Satori.  Please allow me use this first post to rant about which way I came from before we met here.

At first I was a nice kid that became "different" in 1980, aged 15. Discovered punk, then Two Tone, soul, Reggae/Ska and a bit of Jazz. Along with that, my affinity to the 60s more and more broke through. Unbelievable, what foundations TV series and films can lay in early childhood. Daktari must have forever determined my approach to khakis and jeans. Became more and more a strict Taliban Mod and spend the most of the 80s in the 60s. At the end of the 80s, I felt that my interpretation of Mod was limiting me. Left the desintegrating scene for Acid Jazz, House and whatever interested me without having to ask myself guiltydriven "is this Mod?".

When we take a certain style as sun, then my orbit around it would have been elliptical. But the core in the center always was there, gravitating. Then came sources like the books by Graham Marsh, "the Steve", Claxton, certain movies which I watched again with "different eyes". I learned where the elements which interested me most, originally came from: the US. Ivy Style. Suddenly it all made sense.

And here I am on an typical day: White BB OC3BD, light grey cardigan with black tipping (Baracuta, Wouldn't buy it again), khaki Dockers D1, black belt (Bass), black hefty Bluchers with Dainite soles  (Sebago) and a beige London Fog mac. It's raining. Hair crop 2. A bit Airforce-lieutenant-on-leave-goes-shopping-for-Jazz-records-downtown. Ivy "light", maybe?

My ambition is to further amalgate the style elements which I like - no re-enactment or costume, timeless pieces and styles, mostly slim lines, Ivy and 60s continental style. New and old pieces. I am facing several challenges in doing so. One is the fact that I am from Germany, which is really Ivy  diaspora in any respect possible. So I mostly depend on the internet.

Don't be afraid, I won’t be able to post a lot. Lack of time and lack of that huge background many of you have. I consider myself still at the beginning, but maybe I can throw in the one thing or other.

Promised, this will have to be my longest post on here ever. But I had to catch up 2 years of silence.

And now: please serve yourself, I bought icecream for all.

Just to get a repp..

SoulStylist, talcum is Evil...;-)

Wonderful shoes GS, love that shade of cordovan. How was the Vegas scooter rally? Ex girlfriend from SF used to attend it and told me she always had great time there..

Btw my trousers in the photo were charcoal grey. Today I'm wearing that suit jacket with its matching trousers.

He's not lost, he's just behind the charging French cuirassier.. I have to dust the shelf every now and then and move the tiny lead bastards...

Due to the season, its place in the photos has been provisionally taken by a more peaceful and less controversial postcard of a drunk (or stoned) Easter bunny (it says "Easter hunny"), drawned by a talented friend from Melbourne. She owns a label of garment for 'little monsters' (so she define children) and designs all these sorts of cute strange funny animals.
