I find the digest stunningly accurate. The best thrift shop in McLean, Va. is The Treasure Trove. The SHARE shop has its moments too.

Re: OPH, the return!

I think you'll find that the imitators will get all the credits & not the originators.

I'm impossible to credit because to do so would be to highlight that all of this is just a load of crap gingered up as a marketing game.

From what I've seen it's off in a new direction.

Not '81's Preppy.

2010's is even more ugly.

Re: OPH, the return!

Great Scot!  It is that vile text that I once spied back at the super secret society at University when my old chum's signet ring reflected the light across the room.  And to think that we assumed that old Stink was under te covers with a Playboy.  We should have known he was not taking notes on Playboy.  You have set me back with this 'orrid memory.

Cheerio.

Re: OPH, the return!

Chums,,

If preppie was a successor to the ol Ivy League look,, then this is a sad reincarnation, whot?  J Crew head to foot??  What shall the lads do when ol J Crew drops preppie as it has done before?  Cole Haan loafers?  Ol Birnbach must be getting some endorsements to pay for the ol alimony check.  Tru fact... ol Birnbach's nanny published a chick lit novel about her experience working for a 'orrid and neglectful NYC mum.  The Nanny or somesuch.

Re: OPH, the return!

I'd say your work is done here, Russ.  You've officially gotten the stamp of approval from the mainstream.  What started out as a goof, 'as now become official.  Trad is probably the greatest example of "viral marketing" that the net has ever seen.  You took a void, made the middle classes in the US yearn for it, created a fantasy, fulfilled it.  And now you've got all kinds of poor geezers yearning to make money off of it.    Where do you go from 'ere?  I can't see it....

Now of course, me ol' sock Trip -- I don't want you to construe that I actually know what I'm talking about.  I personally 'ave never seen the OPH.  I averted me ol' peepers from any glare off the signet.  Don't know what it is, until someone mentioned it on here.  I didn't try to kip a wee and furtive glance at it on the school bus every morn before going to PS 143 ^H^H^H^H Episcopal High....

Re: OPH, the return!

There is work to do!

There is always work to do...

The J.Crew/RL/Hilfiger/NeoPrep/OPH return/AAAC Trad/WASP/Chenner's Ivy Style exploitation world of 2010 is not the be all, end all of all things Ivy...

The ultimate quest is for something real, something "authentic" maybe, if that's not too loaded a word....
