Dockers

There was some talk about Dockers K-1 khakis and the limited editions, here are some details:

Yet another limited edition hand crafted "heritage" product.

Re: Dockers

Fun stuff for such a lowly & trashable item in origin.

What next?

Most 'Boom Years' Ivy clothes & shoes fell out of the back of some grim & utilitarian factory somewhere. Very few even wore Brooks & Press back in the day when you look at the total spread of the style & its market penetration in the US.

And only a tiny percentage of wearers had anything even remotely to do with an Ivy League college.

Those Dockers might be great, however. I just think that it's healthy to question all these sales pitches.

Re: Dockers

As I've mentioned a few times now though, the K1s that I recently bought from US are a 2009 reissue of a 1950s model and bear no resemblance to the ones released 10 years ago and featured on that japanese site.

he recent ones are much less ostentatious and don't look like they were made for people at the Fedora Lounge to wear at Duxford Air Show.

They are the ones sold here: http://us.dockers.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3691950&cp=2271557.3691949

And for the record I didn't buy cramercord, ripped and repaired or whiskered whatever that is, but the regular ones. Well worth seeking out IMHO.

They seem far more sane.  Wear them in good health, Sir.

Re: Dockers

It's just the price that gets me.

I'd have fag ash & coffee down them in five minutes.

Re: Dockers

The current K1s with a simple buckle back a la Van Jac or Baracuta's recent chinos would be the perfect pair for me, but I'm not keen on all those grommets and suspender buttons etc of those old ones.

This discussion of the K1s has caused so much confusion (as it it did me when I first came across them) that I'm going to go and get my camera and take some detail images and post them here in a bit...

Can't imagine why Dockers also insisted on calling the new ones K1 having made such a song and dance that k1 was an original pattern with that nomenclature....

Re: Dockers

The suspender button versions are a strange fish: surely no US military pant of that supposed vintage possessed such a feature. Suspender buttons on LS denim were apparently phased out in the mid-'30s.

Re: Dockers

Nice pictures, Weejun. They are a fuller cut than my usual but at that price I am seriously tempted. They look ridiculously comfortable.

Re: Dockers

Bought my fist ever pair of Dockers today as well ( K1s in Dakota Loom ) from their store in my hometown. Have yet to have them shortened but won't have them taken in as I'm quite satisfied about the relaxed fit. Think I'll have them shortened into an instep/no break length so that I can team them with my Sebagos ( haven't worn those in years ). I might buy another pair in Gold Dust. Well chuffed....

Re: Dockers

I picked up a pair of the K1 after reading weejun's review. I also chose to keep them at their current fit. Nearly all of my pants are significantly slimmer but I like the change of pace. I hem all of my pants to no break so these are no different. Alex is right, these are great pants. Thanks again for the rec. Weejun.

Re: Dockers

The Dockers slim fit that came out about 15-18months ago was a real improvement on the situation. My one gribe with them, is that you can't the non-iron/crease pants outside the USA.

Re: Dockers

Re- slimming down the K1s - the only reason I was forced to do this was because I ordered 30 inch leg and both pairs arrived measuring around 29.5 and being straight legged this was too short for the width - the sides stuck out alarmingly. Narrowing them down was the only option as I find that even really short trews can look great if they don't flap showing 4 inches of sock!

I just ordered the re-stocked Gold Dust from a forumite in US (thanks again!) and this time ordered 34" leg so that I can turn them up to exact length, but I'm not expecting to have to narrow these ones this time.

just to clear up any confusion - there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the cut only my ordering!

Re: Dockers

Just to add to the nonsense and confusion that Dockers seem to love to put their customers in:

Someone in the US kindly ordered a pair of the K-1s in Gold Dust for me. These were sold out over christmas when I bought the dakota loam and cottonwood pairs.

As any following this thread knows, I had to slim the legs an inch to get a good profile. Others who have ordered them said, no, this wasn't necessary. I put it down to the fact that I'd ordered them way too short and short and wide is not a good look on a tall slim person.

But the gold dust pair just arrived from california and they are completely different cut to both other pairs!! Madness. Different in a good way I hasten to add. The crazy thing is they are a good inch slimmer in the seat and thigh area and seem to be narrower all the way to the hem.

The makers label is different (actual factory tag inside) and this pair has an unfortunate Dockers brand tag sewn in to the waistband - easily removed but the others were brand free.

Fred told me he bought 2 pairs of 32s and had to send them back as they were tight - my 34s are nearly an inch less in the waist than the last two pairs.

Anyway, if you are going to order some from the current  batch bear this in mind! Would still recommend them 100%

Re: Dockers

"Before Corners Were Cut"

The Los Angeles Times does the K-1

"And as someone who used to work on the marketing side of Levi's Vintage Collection, Capital E and Levi's RED premim (sic) denim sub-brands, Riley-Grant happens to have a handle on what kind of things can elevate a hard-wearing, utilitarian, everyday fabric to the level of covetable clothing worth three figures.

Which means the new K-1 Khaki Collection will tap into a rich military history by copying the style of an actual WWII U.S. Army-issue trouser and using a heavy-duty cotton twill called "Cramerton cloth" on some styles.

In addition, buttons are burnished, interior seams are taped to resemble selvedge, pocket bags tout the masculine history of khaki, and fabrics are washed until the crispness of khaki crumples to buttery softness."
