It was the best of time and it was the worst of times....
There's something going on over on Facebook since the introduction of the JSA page.
TI on FNB is spreading its wings, which can only be a good thing?
Just to very quickly address Alex's point - Forum life is very different to FB life. The politics & troll techniques ARE sadly the way that the forums work: Faction against faction to create sub-markets within the overall 'sell' of Ivy.
The forum rules were in place long before we came along and AAAC & SF created them. Theirs is the framework in which we try to subvert / convert / promote.
- And I knw that you have ALWAYS hated that stupid, crappy, childish aspect of online life. And quite rightly so.
But let's carry on looking forwards - Different game, diferent rules, same objective. The FB project has a nice freshness to it for me. My thanks to John Gall, as ever.
Best,
Well, I don't think one really replaces the other. Facebook has many flaws - it was not designed from scratch to work in the way that they now try to make it work, so the logic from a developers point of view is bizarre (rather like a microsoft product!). But it has its place and the whole world talks there, so maybe it's good we expand our world too? There's a privacy on here than many (me included) enjoy but it is also a closed world. I wonder how many people read regularly but have never posted?
TI will always be a good place to talk details but expanding our world I think is pretty healthy. I can imagine people will recognise the beauty of The Great Lost Look beyond 'our world', too.
The genius of TGLL is that it's been largely lost in the online US too and so our project unites everybody who's on a quest for the real deal.
The Look before 'Preppy', The Look that 'Trad' yearns for - In other words, OUR Look.
Alex - You were inspired to pick that name.
Thanks,
Jim.

One of the limitations of facebook is the inability to tailor the front end, as it were. When it first emerged it was, quite rightly I think, dubbed a 'myspace for the non-creative'. It's success attests to the fact that the entire world is seemingly un-interested in being creative.
The facebook group as is seems to be growing along the right lines but it would be a shame if it replaces what happens here. Would debate be watered down? I think it would have to be by definition.
Also there's lots of stuff that the facebook administrators won't let you get away with.
Food for thought.
As NSB quite rightly points out, it will indeed be a great shame if it replaces what happens here.
Debate would be replaced by ugly sycophancy. Its only a matter of time. I can't bring myself to reactivate my account.
Linkedin is the same shit, I'm afraid.
It could work, the mix, but I pledge my allegiance here.
Good comments guys, but no need to worry in any case. I don't give a toss about the format as such re-Facebook but look upon it as an extra means to communicate and promote The Look ( I'd agree in a very 'soundbite' manner ) at the same time. Talk Ivy can't and won't be replaced, though. I for one still enjoy the level of debate and the extraordinary level of 'suss' that can be found on here. I have to admit I do hate a part of what goes on here as well ( as Jim has so rightly pointed out ). KTF and all that
