What was the story with Dexter? Sweden came into it somewhere I think...
Shame. I think for a while they were imported from the US into England via Sweden - For no very clear reason.
I had a pair of Dexters many years ago, they felt like they were moulded around my feet. My good lady wife suggested that I replace them as they were getting rather tatty.
I listened to her.
Mmmm.....
Ho Hum
Mind you I did replace them with two pairs of Weejuns.........Result.
You can read about Dexters history here:

The only Swedish connection is that Dexter was a major brand here. In every shoeshop all over the country you could be sure to find Dexter beefrolls, a very welcome alternative to the horrible shoes of the 80's and 90's. Not any longer sadly tough you can still find nice US made deadstock in some old shops.
They did a nice dirty buck. Jeff Garrett sold me a pair for next to nothing. I think maybe they'd been part of a window display. I wear them sparingly as the red brick sole is wearing down. Never see their like again.
