Is it just my age - fifty-one come November - or do other people find this 'social networking' completely mind-boggling? It took me until I was about forty-plus to overcome - albeit slightly - my aversion to computers, and we only bought our first because there were kids around the house, and Internet-based stuff keeps coming back from school.
I imagined Facebook was mostly used by the dopy, text-messaging women I know, filling in time between 'Glee', shoving something in the microwave and warming up the rabbit.
I've looked at some of the photographs of John Simons' shop window, but the rest of it... sheesh... I dunno...
Most of its ugly sycophancy by people you wouldn't normally still be in touch with. Same with that Linkedin, wankers all recommending each other for jobs. You get a sense of rank mediocrities pretending to be executives and players.
What's going on there with JS is all fine and good, but most of the rest of it......
For me it has given me a 'link' to those between the 'Esteemed Fora' & real life...
One of these days I'm going to do an Ian Strachan and junk everything. If only I could watch tapes and DVDs without shelling out for a license!
The trouble is when you junk or sell things, there's always several items you regret ditching not long after.
It's a bad thing for sure!
Well... You'd never catch Lloyd Johnson on the forums so whatcha gonna do?
I mean it's bad for those poor insomniac internet addicts... and, it's a Panoptikon, of course...
Heikki has posted an interesting comment, recenty: It's Orwellian...
hank, you mean this one right:
'orwellian, eh? today's underclass consists of underpaid + overemployed office workers with fancy job titles. a cleaningwoman is a cleaning expert these days for crissakes. and the worst of it all, us stupid hohos are over here at facebook VOLUNTARILY giving info on our lives to the big brother.'
well, funny thing is, i really think tahat way. on the other hand, i've spent a lot of time in this facebook thingy. not that much recently though. real life with all it's problems & (possible) joys has taken over. that's why i haven't contributed much these days here either. just haven't got time at the mo' and my camera is broken so nowt on the pic front either.
Facebook is evil and should have many stakes driven through its server farms.
Unfortunately, much like checked bag fees, non-diary "creamer," global warming and cockroaches, it appears to be here to stay.
Absolutely, It's still not real life - The best thing of all.
So far for me it's been a kind of halfway step to reach some new people. It's only really when you meet up or get to talk on the phone to people that things start to happen & personalities start to click.
I'm enjoying discussing my medical problems with nice ladies on there...
Did any of you find that Iron Tablets made your spunk change colour?
No, but a strong curry is supposed to make it taste, well, curry-flavoured.
What are you doing out of your bed?
