I'd just like to say how pleased I am to be back - (My saintly wife: "You're not on that damn forum again, are you?") - and I'd like to thank all those people who say they missed me.
I've made friends all over the world!
None in this country, but all over the world...
Took me a while to twig. A post from somebody else referring to your alter egos from the past.
It really made my day when I saw the post about FOTL boxer shorts...
we still have to talk about John Ford, though - I really dig Stagecoach and Grapes of Wrath!
and this is something I should have mentioned, too: I love a bit of an argument... at least, if you can't agree on something!
Hank, check out what James Agee had to say about all those comedy Irishmen in 'Fort Apache'.
It made me smile anyway.
will do!
can't remember Fort Apache, maybe I haven't seen it, or it was 20some years ago... Liberty Valance for example isn't really one of my faves...
BTW, what's your fave Western? or do you despise the entire genere?
Nay, nay and thrice nay. 'Destry Rides Again' is my favourite. 'Stagecoach' was probably Ford at his best, thanks to John Carradine and Claire Trevor. I just can't stand John Wayne. I must check out 'The Tin Star' for Anthony Perkins. I also rate 'High Noon', 'The Gunfighter', 'Broken Arrow' and Laurel and Hardy's 'Way Out West'. 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre', although not strictly a western, is also very fine - Huston still was then.
I know, I know...
Bits of 'The Magnificent Seven' only. Spoiled by Horst B, I'm afraid, doing that cowboy comedy routine.
Must get round to reading Traven.
I've had some very happy half hours on the blower (usually at very silly times of night for him) with The Ripper.
He's a Brother.
Let Us Now Praise Famous Members?
Whatever the literary references, it seems to be a good thing to have someone with vigor posting about things one actually enjoys reading.
I'm currently slacking and lurking but it's good to see you posting again mr RRP.
