^ Everything in that post is well said, good thinking (and good advice). Especially about posing & impressing.

It is now.  But it's kind of silly.  Louis was a hot young punk once.

Re: The Business Of "traditionalism"...

Great post.

... So what was my point?

That 'Trad' is defined by the Modern?

No Modern, no Trad?

That may have been it.

'Modern' Jazz is shot through with 'Trad' Jazz...  It's all a continuum... Mingus to name just 1,000.

All 'Trad' lables are shit!  wink

'Trad' is purely a marketing term. Always has been. So don't be manipulated - Don't buy it.

God bless London... Love it, hate it, but once you've had a brush with the SUSS you never look back!

Feh!

Re: The Business Of "traditionalism"...

Great to have RS back and on top form.

For my own 'sainted pa', if it ain't got dat swing den it don't mean a t'ing.  Louis is his man.  In his music room, on the wall, framed, one black and white portrait of Satch with horn.

He doesn't like Parker, let alone Coleman, Shepp, Ayler or Kirk.  More attuned to John Simons' tastes perhaps.  I've just ordered Stan Kenton's version of 'West Side Story' for him.

You should hear jazzers argue.
'Melody' - that seems to be the key.

Black liking for white clothing seems to have an interesting history all of its own, pre-dating 'Ivy League' dressing.  Once black became hip, well...
