You can often search in vain in general works on jazz for much sign of Ivy style. Sometimes because the books were published during the 70s when the fashions were changing. But guys like Woody tended to stay a tad conservative and restrained, keeping the width of lapels modest, the shirts a little crisp, the watch and watchstrap on the quiet side. Bit of a contrast to Sun Ra, in fact. Or even Jimmy Smith.
