I'm not sure that I've chosen the right word here, but it relates partly to my enquiries over the 1 5/8" turn-up. I find, with the turn-up on my jeans, that loafers look miles better without socks. The wearing of them seems to 'alter the balance'. Does this make sense? Sometimes, however, when wearing an updated Brooks, I'll wear dark socks with wine and it works - at least for me. I think I've seen pictures of George Bush Senior doing something similar (probably where I snitched the idea in the first place). 'Cuffed' jeans IMO look awful. There's a well-known picture of Joe Orton, lounging on his bed. It looks 'cheap' and imprecise. Yet Gibson Gardens once talked about looking too 'pinched and neat' (I think the phrase was, in reference to the buttons on his collars. I have a simple rule: if there's a good roll, let it - if not, maybe unbutton). I dunno.
Can't fault your reasoning on this one, Alex. I still always have a shufti first.
