A 'Correct' Length For Shorts

Just pondering having a pair of pale blue/off-white seersucker pants converted into shorts.  There are some horrific-looking things around at the moment.  A common sight where I live is floppy hat, khaki t-shirt attempting to conceal beer belly, baggy shorts or clam diggers, sweaty socks and sandals or 'trainers'.  I'd like a few suggestions before the seamstress and I begin our next round of banter.  12 inches?  16?  18?

I go for 1.5"-2" above the knee, but I suppose it depends on the length of your legs, particularly the thigh to knee measurement.

LOL.  The girls on the rougher, more interesting side of the Tiber are friendly.  I almost followed one likely-looking blonde, but my wife and child had only popped into a shop to buy Coca-Cola, so...

Just above the knee, as required in the British Army and on the golf course.
