Although I'm not that big a fan of the loafer I'll still try to give a valid answer which is that to me the Weejuns ooze a certain 'warmth' (for want of a better word) and those Aldens look like they were meant to be put in a shop window and stay there, as in more of an object than an actual shoe...
Trust me Alex, those unlined Brooks Brothers /Alden LHS look much better after they've got a few miles under their belt.
'Warmth' is a wonderful word, Alex. 'Charm' is a word I use a lot too.
I only know what I can afford from under the horsehair mattress.
Bass.
There are certain things I would not buy even if I had the money. This does not necessarily rule out Alden.
You can't stop me, I'm gonna do it, time to post those superlative Paul Stuart Cordo Weejun-esque copies yet again!
Now THAT'S a quality loafer!

Wooooah Mamma! They piss all over the Alden LHS!!
Dexter I might like, if their loafer is as delightful as their buck. I've only seen the one example, sourced from J.Simons for resale, and can remember nothing of the styling. Bean do a cheap and cheerful beefy - if you can stomach the powerful smell of the rubber by your bedside.

Those Paul Stuart loafers do look nice - only available in black? I thought they used to have them in brown also......
There is also an Alden Beefroll loafer that is cheaper and nice and US made. Rarely seen though......
