I would not have worn anything like this a few years ago.  Too much like my late Liverpudlian father-in-law in his acrylic cardie. 

I wisely invested in a Woolrich half-zip about four years ago and it gets worn during the depth of winter.

Ireland's Eye do a nice version.  Merino, I think, but looks not unlike Shetland to my untrained eye.
