Bata desert boots

Has anybody seen/bought/had any experience with those? Saw them in the Bata shop today (made in Italy, said the label), retailing for 60 euros, which looks a fair price, compared to Clarks which have a price tag of 135 in this country (yes, made in Vietnam, I believe). Tried them on but wasn't quite sure. At a first glance they looked rather decent.

Interesting ... On the history of the company, I remember my high school history teacher saying how they (when still based in the Czechoslovak Republic in the interwar period) pushed countless shoemaker artisans out of business. And later on, I leafed through a book from the 1930s in a second-hand bookshop that was basically a tirade against them destroying most of the independent shoe production in Central Europe.
Still, hmmm, might give those boots a second try. Provided the silly chicks at the shop can come up with a proper size.

I'm in Slovenia, my good man, but yes, there isn't any logo on the outside of the shoe. Seem to come in black, dark brown and something like dark beige (I think I should consult the Pantene pallete, too wink) Can't find any pics online; however, I think I know which ones you meant by "safari boots" - not those, no.

Aren't Bata really big in Canada? Could be wrong. Saw a logoless pair of their dessies in old TK Maxx only today. Looked quite nice but didn't see where they were made. £29.99 I think.

I believe the company moved to Canada after the Munich Agreement, yes. Nowadays, the headquarters are based in Switzerland.

Ah goodness, those can still be spotted now and then (for some reason, a friend of mine sometimes shows up wearing those, but then again he accuses me of dressing like "a Jehovah's Witness") but the majority of the population seems to have moved on to ... assorted combinations of chavwear.

Re: Bata desert boots

good to hear. i also remember a supposedly american brand of denim called "big star". mind you, i laughed when all of the slovene gang showed up here about 10 yrs ago wearing 501s and retro wrangler gear, when i was still wearing Incontinence pants and AF stuff the size of small cars,so perhaps the patchy-pajamas are the Next Big Thing.

The 'Roma' now appear to be in danger of becoming a protected species under European Law, with the French being more or less accused of planning mass deportations to those recently refurbished gas chambers you may not have heard about.

Jehovah's Witnesses have been around since the 1930s, I believe. There's a Kingdom Hall about three hundred metres from my place. The buggers tend to park their cars all over the road when they are holding a meeting. Double caution needed for a cyclist with screwed up eyes, like myself.
