Room for dissent? Doesn't look like it. I spent ages boosting the book and think it's very good indeed. I was re-reading pages of it in bed before closing my eyes to dream of heathery shades and marl. Might have been more interesting, though, if they'd been interviewed by somebody with a bit of spunk like Melanie Phillips. Gaul runs around making his political comments then says forget about politics. I tend to think more of the Eisenhower than the Kennedy White House - but, of course, that lacks the essential Camelot touch, doesn't it? (Just to balance things out a little, however, I don't care too much for what Foster Dulles did to us over Suez; but, hey, let's not get political, okay?)
"Are you going to bark all day, little doggie - or are you going to bite?"
"Suit yourselves".
I believe Jeremy Paxman was approached but withdrew fearing the geopolitics of contemporary 'ivy league dress' made the Israel-Palestine conflict look like a bun fight.
LOL! Wear does Paxo buy his gear? Jonathan Miller would have been more up our street, I think.
Who is Gmajor7th? Is he someone in disguise?
I am the Pauline Kael of 'Talk Ivy'.
I was thinking more Peter Hitchens.

Is that the leftie one or the rightie one?
Rightie. Big on moral outrage. Your response to my 'Miles shooting up' line reminded me of him at his furious best/worst.

Your 'Miles shooting up' line reminded me of something, too.
