Church's longwing brogue

I saw this Grafton in the window in Church's store the Burlington Arcade yesterday - http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?selectedColourID=45&brandID=4&catID=6&shoeID=43&selectedSizeID=0&selectedFitID=0.

What do you Ivy guys think? It seems expensive to me.

Re: Church's longwing brogue

I would not buy Church nowadays.  Isn't there some Prada connection?

Re: Church's longwing brogue

It is not really a long wing as it does not extend from front to back.

Judging it on its own merits, I always have difficulty with the area where the wings join the lacing flaps. It just looks lumpy to me. I would have designed it so the wing butted against the flap rather than stitching the flap over the wing.

not a longwing.  and yes Church's was bought by Prada, but it's not like you're buying Prada shoes when getting Church's.  If anything I'd imagine the opposite to be true, that some Prada classic shoes may be rebranded Church's which is a step up

Re: Church's longwing brogue

Also the side view looks wrong. The wing is too close to the brogueing around the top of the shoe opening. Proportions look strange IMO.

I am not expert on longwings design - just liked the shoe when I saw it.

Church just would not interest me now.  Too English.  My father and grandfather both wore Church.

They are a good brand, though, but yes, it's not a longwing....

Re: Church's longwing brogue

I think in many ways they're nicer looking than true longwings.

I've tried a pair, last year at the Bon Marche sales, in Paris.  They don't fit me snuggly enough.  Most of the Graftons have a bookbinded leather, and I think it feels plasticky.  They can be found in regular leather however.
