Re: Ivy League style for today

weekend was spent in old flannell shirts, heavy jersey knits, a fjallraven windbreaker and hiking boots.. a fishing trip out in the turku archipelago.

now, at home with a blue ocbd, white t, worn denims, choc brown chunky knit zip cardie, heavy wool socks, no shoes, a heavy flu. off to bed soon..

Re: Ivy League style for today

Just got back from Dubai and can only consider it a modern day parable to the Emperor's New Clothes. Bloody awful place.

Anyway, full on desert Ivy: repp ties, chinos, Alden saddle oxford and BB's white supima cotton non-iron buttons downs. I've read criticism before where BB non-iron shirts can wear like cardboard. Well, in 45degree heat, this is most definitely the case.

No offence, but every chav I know with two ha'pennies to rub together seems to head out there after 'doing' Turkey.

Its a 'orrible 'orrible place. No soul and buildings that can best be described as bling. Too hot to go outside, too depressing to drink at the bar, thank fuck for Zing, the Bollywood channel. Full of chavs and red necks.

No fresh food, taxi drivers can't find there way around and then they drive like they're on a divine mission to the next life.

They should have called the Banksters bluff when they said they're were going to ditch London and relocate to Dubai. No 'effing way mate.

Which reminds me, must source a hungry young graduate to go next time instead of me. The best thing about the trip was the Iranian ladies at the airport.

Re: Ivy League style for today

My sister lives and works in Dubai, tbh, when I took the missus, we just kicked back and relaxed, it was 42ยบ most of the time, sat in the sun, desert safari and Iftars, actually really enjoyed it, but certainly not ideal for the usual Ivy attire. I was mostly in lightweight Albam chinos, s/s button downs or polos and loafers, that is of course, when not in shorts!

Didn't have to endure the crazed cabbies, rkid drove us around. Yeah, it's a bit Disney but I didn't expect less, found that everywhere we ate the food was freshly prepared and this was during Ramadam too. Giant prawns, whole cooked chickens, usually ate in the hotels on the beach front Royal Mirage etc, say in the court yard smoking the shisha etc. Not to everyone's taste, but I went to see my sister mainly.

Fair do's.  My brother-in-law has lived in Texas, Trinidad, Canada and Oman.  I've worked hard to avoid the oily, boastful, Rolex-wearing prick.

All recent clobber today. But transport me half a century back and they won't blink (wouldn't have blinked?) an eye.

Last time I was in Venice it was like 'Don't Look Now'.  An eerie feel to it.
