Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

In anticipation of tomorrows lunch:

Champagne André Clouet, Grande Réserve - A VERY good value grower’s champagne from Bouzy made only with Pinot Noir
Ch Liot, Sauternes, 2001 with the Pate de Foie Gras
Ch Lynch Moussas, 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac , 1996  with the stuffed rolled belly pork
Ch Doisy Daene, 2eme Cru Classe, Barsac, 1988 with the desert
And just possibly Tanners Crusted Port bottled 2000 if I feel the need.

With good company in prospect it should be a very nice Sunday afternoon smile

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Just returned from Blighty and loaded up with Badger and Brakspear ales in amongst latin jazz CD's and framed album covers from Graham Marsh's books.

Badger's Poacher ale is interesting with a hint of licorice and damson.

Currently enjoying Brakspear's Oxford Gold, a fine organic beer at 4.6%.

I'll confess that I've never been one to get my knickers in a knot over Islay malts, but I've recently been introduced to an Islay blend, Black Bottle, that drinks very easily.  What is the opinion of this blend among the connoisseurs?  For the price I find it very satisfactory.

Not tried Black Bottle myself. This man likes it:-

Does anybody remember Brown Bottle from Viz?

''He is a parody of traditional comic superheroes, and, according to Viz creator Chris Donald in his book Rude Kids: The Inside Story Of Viz, was inspired by a man Donald knew whose personality dramatically changed whenever he drank Newcastle Brown Ale. Brown Bottle, real name Barry Brown, is an unassuming newspaper reporter (in some issues he is a bank clerk instead) who in each comic strip is faced with a situation that requires some or other heroic act to be performed. He then proceeds to get drunk on Newcastle Brown, which he thinks will bring on his super powers, but in fact just turns him into a foul mouthed, almost incomprehensible drunk. The punch line is nearly always that at the end of the cartoon he ends up unwittingly saving the day after all.''

Yamazaki Japanese single malt whiskey straight up.  Pleasantly surprising.  Will try the 18 year old this weekend.

The Arran malt: The Sauternes cask finish, what is there to say? It won't last long. Superlatives fail in a wave of suplime West Coat Jazz.

The best of the new distilleries with the exception of Scapa.

Had an interesting variation on the Manhattan at Drink in Boston last night:

2 oz. rye whiskey
1/2 oz. Punt e Mes
1/4 oz. Benedictine
a Luxardo cherry (served on the side)

First attempt at BenRiach 16 year old.  Pleasant, and I normally don't tend to be crazy about Speysides..

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Nothing wrong with Speysides, more of Highland and the new Island malts myself though.  I will be getting a bottle of Glendfiddich 30year old in for Christmas. Must find something suitable for the guests though....

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Glenfiddich had an interesting 21 year old, "Cuban Rum Finish" that they were marketing as banned in the USA on account of the trade embargo with Cuba. It was superb, now they've discontinued with the Cuban part, its not as good.  The 15 year old expression 'married' in the Solera vat is probably their best whisky in terms of price and prolongued taste experience.

Hello.

I like these posts very much. I do not drink much but I like some whiskys and I like Licor 43 on special occasion. Very good.:-)

Best regards.

An "Americano" -- Campari, sweet vermouth and a little club soda over ice.
