Some of the most interesting beers are now coming from the USA and here in Europe they are now copying US microbrews rather than the English and Belgian beers. Part of this are new cross-bred hops that are being shared amongst rival breweries in an attempt an continuous innovation. From my sampling its working. But then again I am biased against Belgian beers which are historically overtly sugary due to a lack of hops.
Blackwood pekoe tea for me this morning, watching the endless drizzle and bad weather making this the worse summer in the Netherlands since 1903. Done wonders for my three apple trees, though. A bumper harvest this year and very little effects of feral birds and insects.

Regarding beer chauvinism, at least in England it is possible to find session beers that are at a reasonable strength to allow you to drink beer for a night. Belgian beers are too strong for anything other than a night cap.
Germany has rheinheitsgebot which is laudable; but in Hamburg, say, the selection is not very interesting - lots of people drinking bland Astra straight from the bottle. I am not particularly taken with American offerings either - Sierra Nevada, Steam beer plus the smaller outfits ? No thanks.
Drinking at home is completely different to drinking in a pub or bar. You need to be in a pub to get English ale most of the time anyway.
I recently tried this place which used to be an old pub in a street market

Our verdict was that it was quite soulless. Like those Belgian bars you get in London. Interesting beers but I would prefer to drink in a proper pub; so after a couple we adjourned to Ye Olde Mitre

Just had a big glass of wheatgrass juice. l'm now enjoying a blue-green algae as a chaser. Always gets me off my tits. l feel i'm about 14 again, no shit doods. Muscle tone, full energy, and never wear out or get out of breath walking up steep hills. l feel young and invincible.

There's a cafe at Amsterdam's Schipol airport that now offers fresh wheat grass as a drink. I will give it a go next time I'm there in a couple of weeks. Maybe after that I will join Shooey, I'm already practically vegetarian at the moment and feel much better for it.
