Blazer with darker khakis or needlecords in the winter. Lighter khaki or stone chinos in the summer. Obviously if you wear it with a white shirt and tie you look as though you got seperated from your mates on the rugby tour
As others said you can dress it down with dessies or mocs. It helps if the blazer is a bit old and the felt shows when the collar rides up at the back.
It's a classic look and I'm not really bothered if preppys or trads like it.

"Prep" and Ivy go together. The Ivy look was created by New England males that used to be at "prep" schools first and later at Universities or Colleges, where they sported that certain, sportive look. In the end - at least to me - Ivy and Preppy are basically the same. Today I think you can differ between "conservative" and "progressive" or "modern" Ivy... the latter being the typical "preppy" look of nowadays - I think Ivy changed over the decades and in the 80s the look moved into that "preppy" look. Some typical "Ivy" factors are referred to be "Prep" - so most would think those are different looks - I think of Nantucket red trousers with boat shoes etc., or rolling up the Jeans or Chinos.
Speaking out of the view in a middle European country I can say that until the day most people had access tho the world wide web no one ever knew here that there is a difference between "Ivy" and "Prep". People here would say "College look" (Ivy/Prep), "College Slippers" (Pennyloafers) etc...
Blazer with chinos/Khakis? Yes, it is "Ivy". And it is "preppy", too. Who would care if it looks good? Avoiding Chinos with Blazers is a Brit thing. Brits combine a Blazer with grey flannel trousers and black Derbys or Brogues, never with Khakis and Penny Loafers. But they wouldn't sport an undarted Blazer, too 
. Italians would combine a very short and slim fitting Blazer with a white slim fitting button down shirt (with longer collar) and grey lightweight trousers. And slim brown suede Derbys. Mods would wear a mixture - Italian shirt and Blazer, french trousers (grey with frogmouth pockets) and Dessies
I think we shouldn't make a religion out of everything, especially clothing

Ah, chicken soup. With barley? Arnold Wesker-style, of course. I curried lamb yesterday, Jamaican fashion. Jerk is wonderful. Elder daughter is worrying about her job, younger daughter about her hair and complexion and the taunts she gets in school (bit of 'homophobia', it would appear). Margaret is running around like a chicken with her head cut off and might form the basis of your next basin of soup. Please give my best to your Rabbi. Tell him I think about his people very often.

Some young men dress in a variation of 'Prep' without quite knowing they're doing it. We can just about forgive them. It's the ones who are doing it consciously we tend to have issues with. Ivy is about a soft, relaxed look, whether you're wearing a suit or just a plain t-shirt and Madras shorts. I know one or two chaps who go for a trendy 'English Dandy/Prep' look and bollox it completely. Wearing socks with yellow boat shoes, for instance.

Of course, everyone has tried claiming Brooks as their own. You'll even find it featured on Ebay as 'skinhead'. That's how desperate some of those people are to make a buck. I once had a real nerdy CIA agent jacket with hook-vent, lapped seams etc. - described as 'mod'/'skinhead'. Deplorable.

Unfortunately, of course, Brooks have been submerging themselves in the toilet and pulling the chain loudly for quite some time now. Their shops in England have never been any good - hence the big interest in John Simons.

It would not surprise me in the least, though, if Brooks had not eventually cultivated the Prep market. In fact, it would amaze me if it hadn't. All those young chaps who might want to look like William Buckley...
