Sounds like a plan!
- Bean I vote as best for rugged 'American' styled basics, even now.
The Price / Quality ratio is spot on.
Unless you go vintage... In which case Woolrich wins (IMO).
Other brands cost more and the quality you get for that never quite reaches the same Price / Quality ratio that Bean offers (IMO).
Others may differ.
For the longest time Bean offered dress trousers in flannel and worsted, all American made quality and at a great price.
As Jim points out, all you get these days are some faux heritage imitation that's overpriced.
Do LL Bean still make those great Camp Mocs, I must get a pair.
That is a mad price for what they are, but they do look good !
I scored a pair of those for around a 40$ BIN some months back. Not the cursive logo but made in Maine, goodyear branded sole. Look identical to that picture. Amazing shoe, unfortunately I haven't had occasion to break them in yet due to the weather.
I flicked a new buck knife for $40. A real one. They throw in a little one suitable for the fishing vest too.

A few weeks ago I was down in our family's old cottage bolthole outside Dublin and amongst a bunch of old overcoats that belonged to my late father, I came across an old Bean 60/40 parka in beige. It's 1980s vintage, I'd guess, most likely a legacy from his years as a visiting professor in New England, in great condition. The only problem is that it's an XL and I take a large size. Still tempted to wear it out, it doesn't look too billowing. An unexpected find either way, and nice one too, for any number of reasons.
My wardrobe is about 40 percent Bean. I love Bean stuff.
