Re: Jack Dempsey

Apparently he frequented Brooks Bros. mainly to get his hands on the Peal and Co. Cordovans.

Re: Jack Dempsey

How were his later years?  It often doesn't turn out well for big time boxers, Henry Cooper was an exception.

Re: Jack Dempsey

I was alluding to some well known boxers down the years who have been unable to handle the fame and fortune and have gone off the rails. Others have carried on pro boxing too long and sucumbed to health problems stemming from being hit around. Dempsey looks pretty good in those pictures of him in later life.

Re: Jack Dempsey

Ray Robinson, a bit later, was very stylish. Both as a boxer and dresser.
A lot of boxers, but not all, ended up poorly healthwise. A brutal sport.
More so then than now perhaps.

Brutiful... Back to jack though, just an absolute brooks 1920 poster boy. Perfect style in my book. Even the long johns!

Re: Jack Dempsey

He did indeed go the 15 with Jo Louis - as they said at the time, he would have had to knock Louis out to get a draw. He was certainly not just a slugger, but he was hard as nails, which is what you'd expect from someone who grew up working down a pit in the Rhondda at the time he did.

Have a search for Arthur Cravan. A real dandy of a boxer!

Indeed... I actually do box and that's what my trainer calls me. I had never heard of him before but quite the character.
