Shit clothes are contextual, because otherwise no prick would choose to wear them! Beautiful clothes can afford to be a-contexual.

When giving a presentation: Harvey Freeman Blue striped or Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece grey counterpane sack suit (Courtesy of a well known Cambridge Ivy clothes dealer; Andover Shop/Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Guthrie and Valentine or bespoke shirts, various silk and knotted ties, black or brown reversible Lanvin belt; hand finished highly polished lace up Baxters or brown lace up Grosbys.  At size 14 one doesn't have a lot of choice.  I set the standard for peons.  After dinner functions I wear a Yves St Laurent DB blazer.  Nearly all of it eBay/Thrift shops except the belt, shoes and some ties.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Is it in 42R and/or for sale Mr Thin Repp?  No prizes for guessing who this is.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Reyn Spooner cotton popover button down shirt in a pale colour they`d called `Tan`. The background colour to this is more of a washed out, faded, very pale, light khaki colour, rather than pale tan (i.e.  there`s a very faintest element of green in this very pale shade). The fern floral print is a darker , complementary, contrasting, faded  khaki (khaki green) colour. Its a close, fitted fit and the shirt is not too long. Worn untucked. Short sleeves always worn rolled up. A pair of Persol 649s 52mm 24/33(tortoise/brown lenses) in  chest pocket
Chakish white/grey Uniqlo low rise . summerweight, thin cotton chinos. Very tapered and short inseam: no break.
PRS10 watch on Light Khaki g10 strap
Sperry Topsider canvas Striper, lace up, deck shoes in bone colour, no socks

If the weather had been cooler , i might`ve worn an upsized, navy cotton Keydge Ivy slack jacket ( a Miles Davis-ish fit), sunglasses in jacket pocket, and Rancourt Pinch penny loafers for sockless footwear. (I want to get some of those pinch penny`s, in brown chromexcel, at some point).

A double-breasted seersucker? Huh, learned something new today - although it doesn't seem very functional. I was always under the impression that the doubling of layers on the front is meant to increase protection against the weather and provide extra warmth...?

edit: it looks smashing, no doubt about that

DB with jeans? Thats not sitting right with me either. I don't really know why.

Not to sure about the experiment on show Repp. I think its the colours, rather than the clothes, too many oddments for me. Maybe black trews and socks would sharpen it up. The socks are screaming for attention.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Tie looks black on my screen, navy trews then? Top pic looks ok, its the bottom half that looks a bit weird, to me. Maybe its just the socks. Maybe its the chinos kinda blending in to the jacket. What about navy trews and socks? Try it and post a pic Repp please, lets experiment!

Re: Ivy League style for today

I for one think it looks great, probably even better out in the sunlight.  If I was to nitpick I would say maybe a different footwear choice would be better, something more 'summery' maybe, but who really cares.  Great job A+++

Also, I would 100% wear that jacket with slim dark jeans; no break, no socks, no worries!

Re: Ivy League style for today

Noble Surfer brings up something that I find really interesting about clothes and peoples opinions on them. We all have our own opinions of course. Over a period of time a forum can help us understand clothes much better. When I first came to TI I really didn't have any time for Popovers or sneakers. I've never had a Popover until a couple of months back. My last (only) pair of sneakers have been about for around 4 years. Still life left in them, thats how much I've worn them. They are top of the summer wants list at the moment. I seemed to have gained a liking for a lot of "Ivy" stuff of late, though the sack remains a vile looking jacket still.
A forum can confirm dress ideas for us and also change our ideas. Some people of course remain unmovable in their opinions. Repp's jacket is, glaringly too short in the arms. It pulls across the shoulders a little also. It really isn't a good fit at all. This of course is only my opinion. I would say the jacket is a tad small for him. I don't know if thats nit-picking or just a factual observation.
I'm sure they'll be many that will be tutting at my comments, and coming to the defence of Repp, (whom I think has posted some nice outfits in the past) as they did with my comments about Ox and that green Harrington, but, interestingly Ox came back with the Harrington and dark jeans. It is this exchange of opinions that move us forward, for the better with our clothes. Too say Great job A+++ is a folly.
